Job description: Your Opportunity:

This is a temporary full time social work position working out of Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. This position provides services to children and families in the acute care setting, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The social worker provides counselling, resources and supports to clients and families addressing their social concerns as they relate to their physical and mental health. Awareness of community resources and legislative requirements related to housing, finances, mental capacity, addictions and mental health, as well as short term counselling interventions are required to perform this role. Previous experience working in a hospital setting is essential. This position works primarily with children and families, but also provides some coverage to other programs and clients within the hospital setting as needed. This fast paced work environment dealing with multiple competing demands ability to triage and adapt quickly to change.

Description:

As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW). Additional Required Qualifications:

BLS/First Aid. 3 years professional social work experience. Preferred Qualifications:

Previous hospital social work experience is preferred. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and application of applicable legislation and community resources related to children and families. Effective time management and crisis triaging must be demonstrated.
