The Crowsnest Pass Health Centre offers a range of services in acute and continuing care, including a 24-hour emergency department, intensive care, x-ray, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, obstetrical, palliative, therapeutic and surgical services. As a Health Care Aide, you will demonstrate genuine interest and respect for our clients and utilize your knowledge, skills, and abilities to competently provide direct client centered care. This position is suitable for candidates who have a strong interest and skills in providing care to the elderly resident, including those diagnosed with Alzheimer disease or other dementias. Within the long term care interdisciplinary team, the HCA is responsible for providing personal care and assisting with activities of daily living within the resident’s care plan. Residents are assisted to maximize their optimum level of independence. You will provide emotional support by being a good listener, being supportive, being friendly and sincere, and interacting in a positive and optimistic manner. You will perform health care duties within your scope of practice as outlined on the resident’s care plan . Crowsnest Pass is situated in the Canadian Rockies, between Alberta and British Columbia. Nestled in the mountains, residents of Crowsnest Pass have the perfect home base for outdoor activities year-round. There’s an active mountain biking club, as well as a number of trails. There are also nearby trails for other activities, including horseback riding, quadding, or dirt biking, with snowmobiling and cross-country skiing popular in the winter. This facility provides Long Term Care (LTC) or Designated Supportive Living (DSL) services & by Order of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, many AHS employees are restricted to work only at a single LTC/DSL site for the remainder of the pandemic.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA) – Nursing Attendant, you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications:

As Required. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Geriatric Nursing an asset. Experience working with seniors and dementia preferred. Supportive Pathways or any dementia related courses. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
