The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment has an exciting management opportunity in the Logistics and Technical Services Section of the Wildfire Management Branch located in Prince Albert. As the Manager, Logistics and Technical Services, you will be responsible for the strategic planning, development, management, supervision, and implementation of resources for logistical support and wireless communication services for the Provincial Wildland Fire Program. You will oversee the work activities and develop collaborative approaches with various sections and work units within the branch including Radio Technical Services, Logistics and the coordination of mobile assets, to deliver safe, efficient, effective and reliable programs.
This position will be responsible for the development and maintenance of a network of 75 automated weather stations and will manage a province-wide wireless communication system of over 100 communications towers and 4,000 pieces of equipment used to provide communications for Environment staff engaged in field operations such as fire suppression, game law enforcement, and park administration.
We are looking for an energetic and experienced manager to lead a diverse group of staff. You will provide overall management for: developing business plans, managing human resources and performance management, safety inspections, workplace investigations, managing financial accountability, developing and monitoring budgets and expenditures, procurement of supplies and equipment/assets, inventory systems, warehousing, contracting and supervision of heavy equipment, large fire camps and systems, mobile equipment assets, equipment repair and refurbishment, fuel management and storage. You will conduct negotiations with contractors and service providers to establish a variety of contractual services. In addition, you will oversee occupational health and safety in the work units, implementation of safe work practices and procedures, assist in staff development for succession planning, and represent the Branch at national/international workshops and committees.
Typically, the competencies for this position would be acquired through the completion of a university degree or diploma in Electronics Engineering or Applied Sciences, Resource Management or Emergency Management, supplemented with several years of experience related to equipment and facilities management and/or fire suppression. Demonstrated leadership experience including the management of staff is also required. Consideration will also be given to individuals with other technical program experience.
This position will be required to travel to remote locations to conduct work activities.
