Description:

Through a part-time, unpaid internship (150 hours), students apply the knowledge and skills gained through previous coursework in political science. Participants will develop skill sets through a professional setting combined with class meetings that include workshops, writing, oral presentations, reading and reflection. Placements are made in both the public and private sectors, such as local or regional government offices, law firms, civil society organizations or non-profit agencies.

Normally, the 150 hours will be completed by attending the work placement one full day each week from September to April. Students must confirm internship arrangements well in advance and secure departmental approval for their internship position prior to the start of term. Students will be admitted to through an online application.

Class schedule: Friday 11:00am – 1:00pm (online)
Dates of appointment: January 1, 2022 to April 30, 2022 (actual work may extend into May 2022)

Estimated course enrolment: 12 Online

Estimated TA support: TA support will be determined by final enrollment numbers.

Salary (for 0.5 FCE): Sessional Lecturer I- $8,489.67

Sessional Lecturer I- Long Term- $8,869.25

Sessional Lecturer II- $9,085.58

Sessional Lecturer III- $9,301.90

The rates shown are inclusive of vacation pay. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Qualifications: The successful applicant will have a PhD or be in progress of a PhD in a relevant discipline or other relevant qualifications related to this course as described in the course description. We are seeking previous experience in teaching, teaching excellence, and mastery of the subject area. Previous experience in teaching a similar course is highly desirable. The candidate should be prepared to teach this course entirely online. As such, experience with offering online modes of instruction (e.g. Quercus, Zoom, Blackboard collaborate or equivalent) is an asset.

Description of Duties: All normal duties related to the design, administration and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; supervising teaching assistants: development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and examinations, including make-up tests; calculation and submission of grades to university officials; holding regular student office hours and maintaining reasonable availability for student contact.
