The Senior Manager, Government Affairs – Canada is responsible for developing and executing CN’s government relations strategy in Canada at the federal level. The role builds and fosters relationships with key government officials, Members of Parliament, Senators, staff and industry stakeholders, monitors relevant government policy and legislation, raises CN’s visibility among decision-makers and advises on the development of proactive government relations, policies and strategies that advance the company’s strategic objectives. The incumbent reports directly to the Assistant Vice-President, Government Affairs and work closely with the CN Government and Public Affairs team across Canada and the United States. Main Responsibilities

· Identify, address, and manage the company’s government relations needs in support of strategic objectives, providing support and triage of government relations matters for other key CN Executives

· Monitor relevant policies, legislation, and regulation at the federal level

· Build and execute engagement plans with federal officials and other third-party industry stakeholders to raise awareness and strengthen corporate reputation

· Assist in the development of material for government and stakeholder engagement including presentations, briefing notes, speeches, and other communications collateral to promote corporate objectives and enhance the organizational profile

· Work with internal subject matter experts to evaluate public policy priorities, opportunities, risk and lead organization-wide responses to legislative initiatives and consultations as well as responding to general inquiries from elected and non-elected decision-makers on key issues

· Represent the company in meetings with government officials, key stakeholders, and third-parties as required

· Identify and support advocacy efforts with relevant industry associations and bodies

· Collaborate with other colleagues in government and public affairs to assist with media and communications strategies where appropriate

· Identify opportunities for CN to be a constructive participant and partner in influencing and shaping important and evolving policy issues

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines and handle pressure effectively.

Requirements

Experience

· Minimum 10 years of experience in a relevant public sector, political, or industry position

· Extensive experience working within stakeholder communities and a well-developed network within those communities, including political and public policy functions

· Familiarity with key issues and challenges facing the Canadian rail and transportation sectors

· Significant experience both working in and with various levels of government, trade associations, campaigns and regulatory agencies

Education/Certification/Designation

· Post-secondary education
