The opportunity
Reporting to the Corrosion prevention program Manager, the Corrosion Technician will have full responsibility for the implementation of maintenance programs that help sustain and enhance the performance of our corrosion prevention (CP) assets and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders.

The Corrosion Technician will need a working knowledge of all components of a cathodic protection system and be expected to maintain core operational qualifications and will be required to perform tasks from other disciplines when business needs require.

This position works a modified schedule which consists of:
Week 1 – Monday to Thursday 9 hours/day; Friday is an 8 hour/day;
Week 2 – Monday to Thursday 9 hours/day; Friday is a Regular Day off (RDO)

What you’ll do

  • Maintain and utilize prints
  • Utilize TC Energy computer maintenance systems
  • Install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot and repair cathodic protection systems
  • Provide feedback & support to Cathodic Protection Engineering
  • Operate and maintain remote operating units for rectifiers
  • Perform annual pipe to soil potential surveys, close interval surveys and analyze data
  • Perform required diagnostic testing e.g. shorted casings, interference testing
  • Assist and develop test station repair programs
  • Ensure all work tasks and duties of team comply with health, safety and environmental regulations
  • Assist with general pipeline Right of Way (ROW) maintenance activities (erosion or sink hole repairs, line patrol, install identification signs and posts)
  • Perform Annual Visual & Ultra Sonic tank inspections as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Journeyman Certification or 2 years of Technical Training from a recognized institution
  • 5 years of relevant work experience
  • NACE CP1 (Cathodic Protection Level 1) Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • NACE Cathodic Protection Level 2 Certification
  • 5 years’ experience in cathodic protection systems
  • Journeyman Electrician Certification
  • Demonstrated management skills in cost estimating, planning/self-scheduling, and assist with planning and coordination of resources
  • Ability to make decisions independently and in collaboration with the technician’s team, Project Managers and Engineering & External Stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of TC Energy desktop applications

This position requires candidates to:

  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract (record) for review
  • Travel often (40%) to support activities in other company locations which will require overnight stays away from home and may be for long duration
  • May be part of an on-call rotation and provides emergency support as required
  • Hours of work may need to be extended as business needs arise
