Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centred clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Superintendent – EMS, the Technician Paramedic, as a member of the EMS Team, is responsible for the provision of high quality pre-hospital emergency, and interfacility client care. The Technician Paramedic is responsible for the provision of this care as well as the safe effective operation and use of vehicles and equipment as per Manitoba Provincial Regulations, Acts, and Regional policy.

The incumbent will exercise a medium level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters.

Functions are conducted in accordance with the Mission and Values of Shared Health, current policies and procedures and applicable legislation.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Current Technician Paramedic Licensure with Manitoba Health Emergency Services
  • Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Accredited Primary Care Paramedic Certification or equivalent
  • Maintenance of certification in all transfers of medical function or protocols as certified by the EMS Medical Director and/or Provincial EMS Medical Director

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Valid province of Manitoba minimum Class IV Driver’s License

Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of the Manitoba Emergency Medical Services Land Ambulance and Stretcher Transportation Act
  • Knowledge of the Manitoba Highway Traffic Act
  • Knowledge of all applicable Manitoba Emergency Medical Services Emergency Treatment Guidelines and Treatment Protocols
  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required
  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums
  • Good work and attendance record
