Technical Writer

The purpose of the Technical Writer position is to prepare and maintain formal documentation that is used by Hardt’s Customers, Service Partners and other external and internal personnel. The Technical Writer works as part of the Technical team and reports to the Vice-President of Engineering.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Create and maintain Hardt’s technical documentation to a professional standard. Examples include Sales/Marketing literature, Operations/Installation manuals, Service Bulletins, etc.;
  • Create and maintain Hardt’s graphical artwork to a professional standard. Examples include serial plates, overlays, labels, signage, etc.;
  • Create and maintain Hardt’s photo and video libraries;
  • Contribute continuously to the improvement of Hardt’s documentation practices.

Qualifications

  • Have a post-secondary degree in a mechanical and/or writing discipline;
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years Canadian/US industrial experience creating technical documentation for the manufacturing sector;
  • Must be technically inclined and very familiar with the terminology associated with mechanical assembly processes, including tools, hardware, common practices, etc.;
  • Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point and Outlook), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and In-Design) and Keyshot rendering software;
  • Must have excellent technical writing skills in English;
  • Be able to communicate verbally in both English and French. Spanish would be an asset;
  • The ability to interpret mechanical drawings/schematics would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of terminology associated with electro-mechanical assembly would be an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Working conditions are a combination of office and shop environments;
  • Candidate is expected to be well organised and capable of multitasking in a dynamic environment;
  • Candidate must be able to work in both independent and team environments;
  • Regular hours 8:30am to 5:00pm – Monday to Friday (minimum 37.5 hours/week).
