Role Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer identifies opportunities for improvement in the manufacturing process and works with supervisors and other engineers to implement process and method improvements. The role also involves providing production support in areas of safety, quality, throughput improvement, line balancing, engineering problems and cost reductions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support problem solving for quality and process related issues for current production utilizing various lean tools.
  • Conduct ergonomic studies and make process improvements based on findings.
  • Conduct time studies to evaluate standardized work adherence and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support and run kaizen workshops with various stakeholders.
  • Take lead on efforts to incorporate new concepts into existing systems with emphasis on improving efficiency.
  • Develop cardboard city workshops to develop lean human-centric cell designs.
  • Support lean learning trainees in the development of TWI job instructions and training timetables.
  • Develop standard work for new processes utilizing combination tables, standard work charts and balance tables.

Other Tasks:

  • Run burst builds with required stakeholders and follow-up on concerns using problem follow sheets.
  • Work directly with internal and external customers to develop packaging for new launches.
  • Participate and assist with the development of World Class Manufacturing team projects and initiatives.
  • Continuously adhere to and apply the Magna Employee’s Charter and the Magna Corporate Constitution and Magna Operational Principles in all aspects of position and interaction with others.
  • Effective use of Maple’s Escalation Process.
  • Compliance to IATF customer requirements
  • Attends all scheduled meetings and training.
  • Understands and follows established rules, procedures and policies relating to position.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by observing safe work practices and by following all safety policies and procedures.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Post Secondary education in a related discipline is an asset (industrial engineering etc.)
  • 5+ years of experience in a lean manufacturing setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and job related software
  • Good command of the English language both verbal, written and the ability to communicate to the customer.

  • Is aware of how the overall program meets lean processes and make decisions to achieve Lean principles from quote, design phase through to implementation of program.

Physical Demands:

  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer, may require local travel.
  • Occasionally exposed to noise and temperature change, lubricants and vibration
  • Must have a valid passport & drivers’ license as travel is required on occasion.
  • Wears all PPE as required
