Job description: Job Description and Responsibilities: Join a fast-paced, inclusive, and passionate team dedicated to providing national leadership, promoting competence, and fostering public awareness of Canadian and international forestry/forest issues. Based at the CIF-IFC National Office, and reporting to the CIF-IFC Projects and Programs Manager, the primary goal of the Forest Education Coordinator will be to lead in the development of national forestry-focused programming and educational materials, creating valuable resources and professional development opportunities for educators and teachers.
- Lead the coordination of forestry-focused programming that provides meaningful professional development opportunities for educators and teachers through tours, workshops, networking training (in person and/or virtual) to learn about: sustainable forest management practices, basic forestry concepts, innovative technologies, impact of climate change on Canada’s forests, and career opportunities for their students.
- Coordinate all aspects of tour delivery including: itinerary, speakers, logistics, equipment, and liaise with external service providers as necessary.
- Liaise with forest sector practitioners and professionals, including CIF-IFC Sections and partners, to coordinate programming of tours which typically involve: field visits, mill tours, in-class presentations on forestry/natural resources management and connections to provincial curriculum.
- Develop educational resources and tools for educators and teachers from various disciplines and grade levels in Canada to integrate forestry and nature-based learning in their classrooms.
- Coordinate the refresh of the CIF-IFC’s Canada’s Forests Teaching Kit Series, in collaboration with partners and contractors, and develop new educational materials with a focus on the forest sector, climate change and climate action.
- Lead engagement efforts with school boards and teachers in provinces across Canada to raise awareness of forestry-focused programming and educational materials.
- Assist in developing promotional materials and social media content to promote professional development opportunities and resources to teachers and educators from coast to coast to coast.
Successful candidates will have:
Knowledge, Experience and Required Skills:
- General understanding of Canada’s forest sector/forestry, ecology and natural resources.
- Program development and/or activity and event planning. Event planning targeted to educators and teachers considered an asset.
- General understanding or ability to learn about environmental education and/or curriculum.
- Strong communication (written/verbal), and analytical skills (Bilingual in French/English is an asset).
- Experience working with a range of stakeholders or interest groups; good interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency with using computers, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to travel across Canada (dependant on COVID-19 restrictions).
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Organized, enthusiastic, a team-player, and self-motivated.
Education:
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in one or more of the following: forestry, natural resource management, and/or environmental sciences; or educators, qualified teachers and teacher candidates.
