Group Leader Opportunity in St. Catharine’s, Ontario.

What Group Leaders Do?

Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment. Participates in the training, developing and evaluating of hourly team members. Participates in the development of highly effective teams. Leads Global Manufacturing Systems(GMS) processes and serves as resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas. Meets or exceeds production cost schedule and maintains quality requirements. Maintains awareness of quality standards, and communicates department quality goals, and leverages resources to solve quality issues. Builds and maintains good working relationships with employees, union and management. Understands and consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and UNIFOR. Implements and follows systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues. Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping. Motivates, trains and develops employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods. Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training). Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements. Coach, teach, counsel and mentor Group Leaders in these responsibilities.

Qualifications Required For All Positions

Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to lead diverse/cross-functional teams as well as mentor, empower and elicit work output from peers and other team members

Basic computer proficiency (i.e. Microsoft Word, typing, email etc.)

Willingness to work weekends, flexible works schedule with rotating shifts.

In addition to our core requirements above mentioned, we are looking to hire Group Leaders in 2 departments within St. Catharine’s Manufacturing facility.

Maintenance Group Leaders

Supervise a group of employees. Responsible for operations, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment

Required:

Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings

High level of analytical ability where problems are complex

Proven project management and communication skills

Experience with SAP and MAXIMO (preferred)

Minimum of 1 year of related maintenance experience (preferred)

Production Group Leaders

Supervise a group of employees to develop business processes, manage production operations and foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation. Consistently administer National and Local Agreement between General Motors and UNIFOR.

Preferred:

Knowledge of Continuous Improvement Processes (CIP)

Proficient in Throughput Improvement Process (TIP)

Advanced understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes

Experience supervising employees in a union environment
