Job description: Coco Paving has an opportunity available for a bilingual Project Manager for its Construction division located in Gatineau, Québec.

Coco Paving is a division of the Coco Group, a vertically integrated heavy civil infrastructure and development company with over 50 years of expertise.

Coco specializes in a wide range of heavy civil construction services and material products. In addition to the heavy civil construction company, Coco Group owns and operates a precast manufacturing facility (Co-Pipe Products), asphalt cement terminal and emulsion plant (Coco Asphalt Engineering), portable concrete batch plants, a number of pits, quarries and asphalt plants, residential construction business and golf course.

Ideally, you are a graduate from a college or university Civil Engineering or Construction Management program and you have two years practical field experience in heavy civil construction projects.

The successful candidate must be able to work well independently and be willing to work overtime, nights and weekends as required.

What’s involved?

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for the daily management of project(s) including but not limited to the following:

  • Report to the General Manager
  • Bilingual; able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Read and interpret contract drawings and specifications.
  • Request for quotes from subcontractors and supplier on as required basis.
  • Understand, read and implement project schedules.
  • Use project scheduling and cost control tools to monitor projects plans, work hours, budgets and expenditures.
  • Supervise subcontractor and own forces as required.
  • Monitor, record and report production rates and construction progress on a weekly basis.
  • Identify, measure and keep record of quantities as per contract items and assist the project manager in preparation of the monthly payment certificates.
  • Implement the environmental/safety/quality control programs as per protocols.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Site Superintendent in the cost coding and cost controlling process.
  • Attend site meetings (as required).
  • Job close-outs – responsible for ensuring actions arising from minutes are completed
  • Assist the Project Manager in the drafting and issuance of project proposals, RFP’s, tenders, budgets, cash flows and preliminary schedules.
  • Effectively and accurately, communicate relevant project information to the client and project team.
  • Ensure clients’ needs are met in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Review field inspection reports from Consultants throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Track & manage contemplated change notices and change orders in the database.
  • Keep the Project Manager and others informed about project status and issues that may affect safety/quality/client relations and profitability.
  • Other duties as required.

What’s required?

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technician/Technology Diploma
  • Minimum 2 years’ practical construction experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license

What’s nice to have?

  • Experience with an ERP system (JD Edwards)
