NOTE: These are causal appointments commencing January 2023 and running until April 2023. These classes will be taught in the evening.
The School of Applied Sciences and Technology is seeking change oriented, team players to fill the role of contract instructor in the Architectural Technology program. Candidates should be willing to support student success in the program, have sound communication skills in both written and oral English, be comfortable with technology, be committed to student motivation and achievement, and be oriented toward student success.
There are two courses that require instructors:
ENDS1100 – This course covers the basics of technical drawing while introducing the fundamentals of light frame wood construction. Construction materials and methods will be explored and applied to a set of residential drawings.
ARCT2311 – This course enables students to expand their technical knowledge related to detailing the building envelope. Emphasis will be placed on structural steel framing and its relationship to cavity wall construction and glazed curtain wall. The selection and placement of products and materials for these details will be explored.

Both classes will be a combination of Face to Face and online delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and present classes to students in a variety of modalities
- Prepare, administer, and grade all course materials
- Organize and supervise practical assignments
- Utilize appropriate educational technology for communications and presentations
- Maintain professional ethical relationships with students and colleagues, respond professionally to student issues and concerns
- Maintain student attendance and other documentation as required
- Maintain regular contact with relevant industries and program related organizations
Qualifications:
- A diploma in Architectural Technology. A degree would be of benefit.
- Eligibility for membership or affiliate membership in the appropriate professional organization would be a benefit
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit, Photoshop, and other graphics rendering software
- Excellent classroom management and instructional skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
- A high level of independence is required
NOTE: Candidates selected for an interview will be required to do a teaching demonstration (5-8 minutes) on any topic covered in the program.
Remuneration: $99/hour (Instructor A)
