Job Description
You will be required to perform technical tasks related to structural engineering while on site at an operating industrial facility. This includes inspection and audits of site facilities as well as determining load estimates, preparing engineering calculations and analysis, technical design solutions, developing engineering drawing and construction details.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural reviews on existing steel structures in industrial facilities.
- This role will work from two locations: for one week each month at a heavy industrial site near Kamloops, BC, and all other weeks of the month in our North Vancouver office.
- Collect technical data on structural steel members for later structural analysis.
- Review and check existing drawings and engineering design with the Engineer for compliance with established codes, standards, and specifications. Assist in reports and other technical documentation, as required.
- Provide technical support to designers and drafters. Communicate and coordinate with team and project members.
- Works with the Engineer and implements relevant systems, standards, practices, and procedures as required.
- Maintain health, safety, and environmental protocols in workplace. Working and safety protocols apply in the active industrial and/or construction sites; safety training and equipment will be provided.
Technical Qualifications
- Diploma in Structural/Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution.
- Preferred ASTTBC member or registration as an A.Sc.T. is an asset.
- Preferred minimum of 1 year of experience in an industrial setting including field work at a heavy industrial site (such as mining, pulp and paper or oil and gas, construction).
General Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Physically able to perform the physical demands of the field portion of the work including walking, climbing, and bending over repeatedly.
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with team members.
- Problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
- A positive “can do” attitude
