Role Summary:
The Senior Financial Analyst – FP&A is the key financial reporting resource within the SLFI Business Unit reporting to the Director-Profitability Management and is responsible for coordinating financial reporting within the Business Unit and supporting the FP&A function within Sun Life International HuBS and wider Asia businesses.
This position is accountable for the deliverables associated with management reporting and annual financial planning for the International business. In addition, this position supports strategic planning, business initiatives and other ad hoc projects as needed. The position utilises detailed business analysis to identify concerns/trends and applies them to future planning.
Proficient in specialized or senior level skills sets within a function. Deep and thorough knowledge of functional area with senior level knowledge and experience in one or more specialty areas. Performs complex financial modeling & assignments. May be the highest level individual contributor for the FP&A group. Proficiency in using Excel and prior experience of working in financial services accounting environments.
Main Responsibilities:
Financial and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting for the Sun Life International business, including sales, net income, expenses, SOE, VNB and other quarterly management reporting deliverables, as well as monthly forecasts, Business Plan and Strategic Plan, working in close concert with the Actuarial team as needed.
Communication of results to Asia Regional Office (Asia RO) and International Financial Affairs leadership.
Liaise with the valuation and projections teams within SLFI and NAVA (Wealth) to ensure that timelines are clearly articulated and met, and that International results and analysis are seamlessly communicated between all teams.
Analyse all key drivers contributing to sources of gain or loss for Life and Wealth and highlighting issues for consideration by senior financial management.
Monitor business trends for potential events contributing to significant variances in projected profits and help develop mitigation strategies with management
Actively review & verify all plan and other non-actuarial projection assumptions.
Review results produced by the centralized teams and request additional analysis in order to explain financial results.
Complete monthly KPI reporting with commentaries
Prepare management dashboards for the International Life & Wealth businesses
Participate actively and add insight to monthly SOE reviews
Conduct business reviews as needed
Key resource in upcoming business projects involving the adoption of IFRS17
Perform ad hoc analyses and special project work as needed.
Key Requirements:
University degree or equivalent in Business, Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science or related discipline.
5+ years of financial planning & analysis experience
Experience in insurance or similar financial services business environment is essential.
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to think quickly and under pressure.
Attention to detail and accuracy of information produced and recorded.
Strong organizational skills and commitment to meeting deadlines.
Ability to work in a matrixed environment with interfaces to many different constituents.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to present financial and management information with confidence.
Proficiency in using excel to drive quality analysis and develop complex models in a controlled, safe and reliable manner.
Willingness to work some non-standard hours, occasionally having to liaise with other Sun Life offices after regular office hours, due to these being located in other time zones.
