The Early Childhood Educator Registry (Registry) is the legislated authority responsible for the certification of Early Childhood Educators (ECE) and ECE Assistants, the investigation of complaints regarding the competence and conduct of ECEs and ECE Assistants and the assessment and recommended approval of post-secondary early childhood education programs in British Columbia (BC).

The Team Lead of Assessment, leads and provides guidance to a team of Assessors responsible for the assessment of applications for provincial certification. The role of the assessment team is unique in that their primary purpose is to assess an applicant’s suitability to practice as an ECE or ECE Assistant and to verify the information submitted with an application to ensure all legislative requirements are met.

The Team Lead of Assessment, is also responsible for making statutory decisions, on behalf of the Director, regarding the issuance of certification and for supporting the Director (or delegate) in their decision-making role by providing recommendations regarding courses of action to be taken such as the denial of an application for certification and/or the attachment of terms and conditions. This requires the ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, policy and the principles of administrative law and natural justice. The Team Lead creates and maintains systems for tracking assessment decision to ensure timelines are met and that decisions are consistent and administratively fair. The decisions the Team Lead makes on files may be subject to a high level of public interest, scrutiny and may have serious impact on the economic and professional position of the individuals involved.

You must be able to independently manage your own workload while taking into consideration changing priorities, tight deadlines, volume of work and available resources. You have good problem solving skills, and are adept at handling public inquiries in a professional and timely manner. JOB REQUIREMENTS:

To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Post-secondary certificate in a related field such as early childhood education and social services or, business administration or public administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience leading and supervising a team including scheduling and performance management.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience providing client service and supporting subordinate staff in an adversarial environment.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience interpreting and applying legislation, regulations and/or policies.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Post-secondary coursework in Early Childhood Education.
  • Supervisory experience with HR Management practices and techniques, labour relations and application of collective agreement.
  • Experience in a public sector environment.
