What will your typical day look like?

As an Analyst in Actuarial & Insurance Solutions (AIS), you will be a part of team of like-minded individuals where you will contribute and support market and client initiatives. You will:

  • Support practice leaders by delivering work on a wide range of advisory projects within actuarial, valuation, pricing and advanced analytics domains
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to personal learning and development; act as a brand ambassador to help attract top-talent
  • Understand expectations and demonstrate personal accountability for keeping performance on-track
  • Actively focus on developing effective communication and relationship-building skills
  • Understand how your daily work contributes to the priorities of the team, the business, and the firm

About the team

The Actuarial & Insurance Solutions (AIS) practice is a multi-disciplinary and cross-functional service line that engages with clients across the Life, Property & Casualty, and Pension industries. Our Canadian team is part of Deloitte’s worldwide actuarial network, which includes over 1,500 actuarial professionals working in 43 countries. Our service line performs client engagements that include, but are not limited to, technical actuarial work, enterprise risk management, actuarial process re-engineering, regulatory advisory, pension de-risking, predictive analytics, and M&A due diligence.

As an actuarial analyst in our Pensions team, your responsibilities include:

  • Core focus of providing actuarial audit and business advisory/consulting support on pension and benefit issues to various clients in both the Public and Private sectors
  • Participating on a wide range of consulting projects (e.g. actuarial valuation support, regulatory advisory, pension de-risking, predictive analytics, and M&A due diligence)
  • Developing market offerings by contributing with innovative approaches to existing firm initiatives and other proof-of-concepts that utilize the latest advances in technology
  • Supporting practice leaders with new business and sales initiatives
  • Engaging in opportunities and training that will facilitate the acceleration of your career, particularly with respect to leadership, emerging technology, insurance, and analytics

Enough about us, let’s talk about you

  • Bachelor’s degree from a leading University in the fields Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, or a related field
  • New Graduate and/or approximately 1 year work experience in Actuarial science, Statistics Mathematics, Risk Management, or a related quantitative field
  • Demonstrated commitment to the actuarial industry through actuarial exam progress (2 or more exams) and becoming a credentialed actuary
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.) & communication skills (written, verbal)
  • Demonstrated capabilities in a team environment and the ability to balance tasks to meet deadlines
  • Aptitude to synthesize quantitative analysis/concepts and effectively relay this information to audiences of varying backgrounds in an engaging manner
  • Prior experience in the pensions industry and with pension valuation software (ProVal, Retirement Studio etc.) or programming languages (R, Python, SQL) considered an asset
