Reporting to the Division President, the Architectural Manager is responsible for managing the architectural services to the Division while striving to provide The Best Homeowner Experience. This involves performing various tasks and working with different areas of the business such as Marketing, Purchasing, Design, Human Resources and/or Construction.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure architectural controls are aligned and applied in the division as directed by corporate Architecture.
  • Manage, coach, develop and mentor staff divisional Architecture employees for exceptional performance and to prepare them for future opportunities.
  • Coordinate, review and revise architectural drawings to ensure that all documentation complies with Mattamy’s strict standards and Ontario Building Code.
  • Approve budgets and quarterly reports outlining the estimated cost to complete each project underway.
  • Coordinate and review construction documentation for building permit application and construction.
  • Implement and manage BIM workflow with Architects and other external consultants to ensure models are providing the necessary outputs for other departments use. Example; quantity take off data for Purchasing
  • Lead the detail design of Mid-Rise Project- including suites, Building form, exterior and interior spaces. Work with other internal and external stakeholders and consultants on midrise site plan development
  • Ensure external consultants are aligned with the Division’s needs and are able to meet tight deadlines
  • With feedback from other departments, ensure product being designed meets the needs for the Division. Example; marketability, constructability, feasibly, etc.
  • Coordinate the revision process of working drawings, structural revisions, municipal review comments, subcontractor revisions and provide updated “Issued for Construction” drawings to Construction Department
  • Verify that architectural working drawings correspond with marketing brochures, forward any discrepancies to the appropriate departments
  • Lead Value Engineering of new designs
  • Prepare list of lot upgrades based on Mattamy Homes internal guidelines and external Architectural control guidelines and coordinate with architectural firm to ensure drawings are accurate and completed on time
  • Coordination of working drawings for upgraded elevations and review of costs with Contract Manager
  • Conduct site visits to correct or improve information shown on working drawings, review exterior colours and detailing.
  • Other responsibilities as required.

What You Bring

  • Architectural Technology Diploma from a Community College or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of business experience working in an architecture related role, ideally within the residential construction field or project management in construction.
  • Experienced at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; demonstrated use of good judgment in handling large volume of requests with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Working knowledge and skills with drawing application programs in particular, AutoCAD (version 2020+) and/or Revit and BlueBeam Revu.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate verbally, in writing, and visually through use of architectural drawings
  • Ability to apply standard construction techniques to CAD drawings
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (MS Project an asset)
  • Full understanding and ability to apply Part 9 and Part 3 of the Ontario Building Code (Housing)
  • Detail-orientated with ability to check documents/drawings for accuracy, communicate detailed changes and ensure corrections are made
