Responsibilities

  • Review and understand construction RFQs
  • Analysis of construction documents including architectural, structural, mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare detailed architectural shop drawings for commercial construction projects
  • Create architectural shop drawings based on building specifications, calculations and sketches.
  • Work in conjunction with mechanical engineers, designers and production to oversee the design of a project/product. In addition to creating work schedules
  • Create visual guidelines for construction purposes.
  • Coordinate project/product work, prepare estimates and interpret plans.
  • Specify dimensions, materials, and procedures.
  • Review of estimate and quotations prepared by sales department.
  • Produce submittal shop drawings to communicate details of product and how it integrates into the building construction.
  • Coordination with customer to determine final dimensions, colours.
  • Produce bills of materials and fabrication drawings for production.
  • Use Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD) to prepare drawings.
  • Contributes to the enhancement of department design standards and existing products.
  • Organizes documentation, including drawings, correspondence, purchasing requisitions, etc.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and timely completion of task.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Architectural Technology or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment that involves the transformation of steel and aluminum into finished product, preferably in exterior building envelope products – cladding and/or window systems.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in commercial architectural metals drafting with familiarity of shop layouts for fabrication preferred.
  • Ability to read construction documents including architectural, structural, mechanical drawings and interpreting specifications.
  • Basic understanding of commercial architectural wall and roof design and construction.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Required: AutoCAD and basic computer skills with outlook, word, excel
  • Proficient in Solidworks a plus
  • Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s license (may be required to drive to an offsite job location)
