The Perinatal Education Program, Calgary Zone, focuses on high quality, evidence based health promotion, informed decision making and family centered education for expectant families during pregnancy and beyond. The program maintains the philosophy that pregnancy and childbirth are key life experiences for families as well as normal physiological processes. Perinatal Educators follow a comprehensive curriculum to facilitate classes both virtually and in-person at a variety of AHS and community sites in rural and urban Calgary Zone. These classes prepare families for pregnancy, childbirth, infant care, postpartum care, infant feeding and adjustment to parenthood. Following the program’s core curriculum, Perinatal Educators plan and implement classes that are consistent with program guidelines. Additionally, Perinatal Educators are required to attend regular staff meetings and educational sessions, commit to ongoing professional development and develop an extensive awareness of AHS and community resources. This Community Perinatal Educator position will be focused on facilitating series of prenatal classes across a variety of formats (6 week and 10 week evening series and 4 week and full day Express Saturday series) and the availability to facilitate a minimum of three classes each week is required. Additionally, the position requires the ability to lift, bend and stand for long periods of time and move chairs, tables and carry program materials to and from sites. Required skills and experience include related adult education experience, exceptional group facilitation skills that support a high level of participant interaction and engagement, significant knowledge of the childbirth process, recent experience with prenatal populations and experience facilitating using childbirth education tools, PowerPoint and Zoom.

Description:

As a Community Educator, you will be responsible for delivery of comprehensive patient-centered education and health promotion in area(s) of expertise to patients (clients, residents), families and internal or external care providers. Education may be presented formally (classroom) and/or informally (one-on-one) and in a variety of settings from clinical, classroom, and community. This will include building partnerships with and acting as a resource to specialty services partners, community partners, and other AHS zone programs and staff. You may identify education opportunities, assist in content development, analyze and evaluate services, and work with internal staff to schedule classes and identify locations. You will build new partnerships, implement new initiatives and promote your assigned program.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor’s degree in a health or education related field. Additional Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing, midwifery or a health related field and certification from a recognized childbirth education training program is required. Significant knowledge of the childbirth process and options. Exceptional facilitation skills supporting interactive adult learning strategies. Recent experience working with prenatal populations Extensive knowledge of perinatal health and community resources is required. Demonstrated self-motivation, reliability, collaboration and independence. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team. Ability to move, lift, bend, stand for long periods of time, move chairs and heavy tables and carry program material and equipment to and from sites. Preferred Qualifications:
