Job description: Safe Roads Engineering (SRE), a member of the Powell Group of Companies provides timely client friendly engineering services for constructors. Our team specializes in roadside safety design and inspections, traffic management design, product development, geo-structural design, dispute resolution and education, structural design and inspection and training within our areas of expertise. Our primary sectors are highways, roads, bridges and transit infrastructure where we work with Contractors as well as Provincial, Regional, and local municipal transportation agencies and other consulting firms. We also provide asset management programs and infrastructure inspection services.
We are currently looking to add a Construction Engineer to our team in Stouffville.
Summary:
The Construction Engineer will be a P.Eng with construction and design experience – ideally with a shoring background. The Construction Engineer will help produce designs for the purpose of estimating, design for submissions, trouble shoot site issues and help review quality. This individual will be required to work with the field crews, understand how to utilize existing materials to produce cost-efficient designs and to be able to make field fit modifications rapidly to address unknown changes or conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees the planning, design, construction, and estimation of cost for company projects
- Supervising the preparation and review of contract drawings and documents
- Establishing design and construction schedules and monitoring progress of various projects and their conformance to design and construction schedules
- Responsible for inspecting project sites in order to monitor progress and ensure compliance with all safety and government regulations.
- Provide feedback and advice regarding the technical aspects of company projects to management and other project leaders. Supervising the preparation and review of contract drawings and documents
- Work in conjunction with various departments internally (operations, safety, etc.) to ensure positive communication and execution of the project.
- Prepare and implement quality control test plans and procedures as outlined in contract documents, OPSS specifications, MTO Special Provisions and the like for a range of construction processes.
- Identify main quality control issues and educate field staff on the importance of tolerance and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Supervising the preparation of project contract documents
- Review and understand construction costs to ensure designs are completed according to the budget.
- Identify and utilize value engineering opportunities to reduce construction costs.
- Making technical reviews and providing recommendations regarding designs and reports prepared
- Other duties as assigned/required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- 5+ years of related experience in Civil Engineering
- Experience in construction and producing efficient engineering designs
- Experience in Shoring Design
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng)
- Strong skills in AutoCAD
- PMP certification would be an asset
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Excellent problem solving, time management, and project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost controls
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and clients
- Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment
