You will have experience in soft-ground TBM tunneling, construction management and large civil infrastructure market segments and possess the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Mining, Geological Engineering or related discipline;
  • Professional Engineer / Chartered Engineer registration is preferred;
  • Fifteen (15) years’ experience in the construction management of large civil infrastructure projects, preferably related to soft ground shafts and tunneling, contract administration, resolving claims etc.;
  • Fifteen (15) years’ experience in the design and construction inspection of large, preferably steel lined, water supply tunnels and shafts in soft ground, employing pressurized face tunnel boring machines and precast concrete segmental liners, experience with 4 to 6 bar pressure preferred;
  • Experience in the construction of tunnels and shafts in rock preferred;
  • Possess strong technical writing and communication skills necessary to perform the construction manager’s position evaluating and responding to correspondence as well as leading meetings between the client, designer and contractor;
  • Have the necessary drive to achieve their goals and deliver commercial success;
  • Be innovative looking to develop their technical and management skills and willing to tackle any challenge and
  • Capability to work closely and effectively with a range of stakeholders and providing pragmatic, effective and successful solutions to engineering challenges.

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Construction Manager – Tunnels based in our Vancouver office. As a Construction Manager – Tunnels working as an integral part of the transport team, your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Full-time, on-site Construction Manager position leading assistant construction manager(s), site engineers, cost control and admin project staff;
  • Expectation to manage a team working six days per week during shaft and tunneling operations;
  • Coordinate with the client and design engineer’s staff to ensure inspection work is carried out, test results pass and test results are properly documented;
  • Lead budget review and cost control for the entire project, including contracts for the construction contractor(s) and design engineer;
  • Coordinate and document regular meetings with stakeholders, as required to manage and control project related risks;
  • Implement, manage and maintain a document management system for documents generated during the course of construction;
  • Coordinate review of the construction contractor’s submittals and shop drawings, as required;
  • Planning the work and maintaining responsibility for scope, budget, schedule and technical quality as the design progresses;
  • Project management and coordination with other engineering disciplines including, structural, environmental, mechanical and electrical engineers covering a range of project requirements from new build to modification, maintenance or refurbishment;
  • Experience presenting to the client’s senior management on construction progress and issues;
  • The ideal candidate will also be willing to contribute to projects within other sectors and offices, as required and
  • Overtime will be assigned as needed during construction phase, but weekend site presence requirements are anticipated.
