Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Addiction & Mental Health (AMH), North Zone, this Senior Management position is responsible and accountable for providing the vision, direction, leadership and organization over the activities of North Zone Addiction and Mental Health. The Director position has accountability for a geographical area and specific program areas including organizational structure and strategic administrative functions that contribute to the effective management of teams and service delivery in the North Zone. This includes leadership in the development of robust frameworks and infrastructure to support program delivery and reporting, strategic planning and priority setting based on best practice, existing resources and utilization trends. This also includes identification of quality improvement initiatives to be undertaken, and providing support to operational managers to imitate and maintain quality improvement as needed in a responsive and ongoing approach. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Description:
The Director supports the vision, mission and business plans of Alberta Health Services (AHS) particularly with respect to the delivery of integrated and recovery-oriented services for individuals experiencing mental illness and/or addiction. The Director is responsible for the development and execution of the North Zone AMH strategic plan for the North Zone within the scope of their assigned programmatic areas of accountability and geographical areas of responsibility. This includes regular reporting on areas of accountability, fiscal management and development and communication of action plans. The Director is responsible for leadership in building and maintaining strong teams, providing support to front line managers and union partners in complex situations, to deliver optimal outcomes and support a Psychologically Safe and Healthy work environment for both staff and patients. This includes being a steward of change management. The Director will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including physician partners, Primary Care Networks and other AHS programs, Alberta Government and non-government offices, community agencies, and University Facilities and Councils to advance and promote collaborative partnerships and integrated AMH services across the continuum of care. Working closely with community organizations, contracted services partners, Indigenous Communities and Patient Advisors in developing robust engagement plans and ensuring we are delivering patient centered care is included in this work.

Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a Master’s Degree in a health related area. A minimum of 5 years in addiction and mental health and/or health related, senior leadership role in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. A clinical designation applicable in the area of Addiction and Mental Health. The incumbent will demonstrate a clear pattern of professional and personal development. Equivalencies of education and experience will be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
In addition, the incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: Senior leadership experience in an addiction and mental health or health care environment, including five years’ experience in a management role in mental health, health care or a related field. Practical experience in strategy, policy development, leadership, and project and program management. Knowledge and demonstrated application of business planning, modeling concepts, and program and project management theories, principles and practices. Uses strategic thinking, taking into account long-term goals assessing options and implications. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources in a changing and multifaceted environment with diverse, complex and sensitive issues. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within a large, diverse organization and managing within a large, diverse organization and managing within a unionized sector.
