The Director, Finance is responsible for the financial and accounting operations of the company, including the production of monthly financial reporting as well as periodic financial reports, KPI’s, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and/ASPE or IFRS.
The Director, Finance assists the CFO or designate on strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost-benefit and cost reduction analysis, forecasting needs, reviewing operational performance and securing new funding.
Job Accountabilities:
- Responsible for all aspects of finance and accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue accounting, corporate accounting, taxation, treasury and payroll
- Leads finance team, setting annual goals and cross-training of team members as required, ensuring departmental goals align with overall corporate goals and strategies
- Review and help prepare monthly internal reporting, as well as quarterly board reporting, which includes MD&A and annual financial statements
- Oversees all financial company audits, including financial statements, GST/HST, ATSC, US taxes and airports, including managing the day-to-day coordination with external auditors.
- Prepares, monitors cash flow and projected working capital requirements, working with lenders and merchant processors to preserve appropriate level of liquidity for operations
- Proactively communicates with suppliers, operational managers, directors and the executive leadership team
- Provides executive management team with reporting and guidance on financials to enable the execution of strategy and decision making
- Assists overseeing the annual Operating and Capital budgets for executive and board approval
- Presents recommendations on issue resolution, tax planning, and other financial issues, as required
- Establishes and implements accounting procedures and policies, ensuring that the Company is compliant with ASPE as well as all new and existing IFRS guidance
- Establish SOP’s for current environment and plan/implement SOP’s for future growth
- Acts as a technical expert for the Company, partnering with operational managers to provide guidance and decisions on accounting treatment for various issues
- Develops, implements and ensures compliance with internal controls over financial reporting and cash disbursements
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships with operational managers, directors and the executive leadership team to support and achieve organizational goals
- Demonstrate a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy to do business with manner of working.
- Support the SMS (Safety Management System) program through participation and reporting.
- Such other duties as assigned by the organization from time to time.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or in a related area.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible experience for a firm, major company or division of a large corporation; which includes a minimum of four (4) years at a managerial level demonstrating analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills in managing moderate to complex financial and accounting issues.
- A thorough knowledge and technical skill set of ASPE and IFRS reporting standards
- Must have demonstratable experience in hypergrowth, cash constrained environments
- Must be adept at encouraging entrepreneurial/innovative ideas and build consensus at all levels of the organization
- Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage multiple projects
- Demonstrated mentoring and communication skills
- Demonstrated superior analytical capabilities, acute business sense and sound judgment
- Strong self confidence with excellent interpersonal and motivational skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to excel in the present and help plan for the future
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal
- Prior Airline experience would be an asset
- Prior experience in an e commerce environment would be an asset
- Prior experience with Sage 300 would be an asset
- Ability to secure and maintain appropriate airport security clearance, acceptable criminal record checks are required
