Steel River Solutions has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Director of Mainline Construction to join our team in Sherwood Park, Alberta. The Director of Mainline Construction will work closely with Senior Management and Executives to strategize and develop long-term plans that support continued levels of success and growth of Steel River Solutions.

Key Job Duties:

  • Responsible for all field operations to achieve timely and profitable completion projects.
  • Maintain and promote a culture that promotes safety, quality, and environmental compliance for all staff, employees, subcontracts, and clients while following all policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Oversee staff and project teams by carrying out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, and training employees and subcontractors; planning, assigning and directing work; providing feedback; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Oversee all reporting requirements for all projects internally and externally.
  • Prepare reporting for leadership and present, as required.
  • Manage and maximize the use of Company resources and support to effectively deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Oversee the development of project plans, including scope, budget, schedule and project team responsibilities to accomplish project objectives.
  • Oversee the tender process, budgets, estimates, construction schedules, progress and monthly reports etc. for all projects Company-wide.
  • Ensure proper cost control, management and forecasting of projects are maintained at all times.
  • Plan, monitor, and analyze key metrics for the day-to-day performance of the operations to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks.
  • Manage procurement processes and coordinate material and resource allocation.
  • Review financial reporting and adjust operational budgets to promote profitability.
  • Support strong relationship development between local groups, communities, and industry.
  • Support the creation of an accepting, respectful, non-judgmental, and inclusive work environment.
  • Identify and problem-solve through potential conflicts as they arise.
  • Set strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity.
  • Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience managing and construction of large diameter mainline pipeline systems.
  • Engineering Degree, or graduate of an applicable technical diploma program; or an equivalent combination of education (i.e. PMP/PRINCE II) or related work experience.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the construction industry, with significant management and supervisory experience in a similar role.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Proven understanding of estimating and project management theories, methodologies, and industry practices.
  • Strong understanding in developing and maintaining corporate and project budgets and schedules
  • Familiarity with relevant construction codes, standards, and practices
  • Comprehensive understanding of project and contract documentation including contracts, drawings, specifications, subcontracts, etc.
  • Proven ability to work, build and maintain relationships with communities, including municipalities and Indigenous groups.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Masterful organizational, communication, and leadership skills, demonstrated by previous professional success.
  • Excellent communication skills: written and verbal skills, listening skills, organization abilities, proven attention to detail, and ability to develop good working relationships with inside and outside organizations.
  • Superior knowledge of multiple operational functions and principles, including finance, client relations, production, and employee management.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to First Nations culture, history and community development

Working Conditions:

This position is office-based in Sherwood Park, Alberta, with frequent travel to project sites.
