What is the opportunity?

An OMNI chapter lead is responsible for driving the vision of a specific competency within the development community of Omni. They do this by nurturing talent and culture, facilitating learning and knowledge sharing, and applying their technical expertise to ensure that Omni is on the leading edge of development practices.

This role is a six senior management roles in the Omni program. They are a leader who uses impact and influence to help increase the technical competency and execution ability of Omni.

What will you do?

Knowledge Sharing and Learning

Lead the training of developers across Omni by coordinating internal and external seminars and workshops
Liaise with the Omni Talent Squad to bring in external programs/vendors for training and development
Foster a culture of self-improvement and learning by encouraging developers to leverage their “10%” chapter time for innovation
Lead meetings and activities that enable cross-squad and cross-journey knowledge sharing to solve common problems
Represent RBC (attend and present at) external and internal technical conferences

Technical Leadership

Drive Omni-wide technical deliverables across journey backlogs, by collaborating with Journey Owners and Product Owners
Research and influence industry trends within their chapter’s competency and ensure that Omni is leveraging the best available tools and techniques
Establish technical standards and best practices for journeys and squads
Drive innovation with chapter members through meetings and activities (code reviews, demos, meetups, conferences, etc.)
Evangelize chapter, Agile and Omni best practices for all developers across all squads

Nurture Talent and Culture

Manage talent within their chapter in conjunction with journey technical leads and the Omni Talent Squad
Create learning paths and development plans with chapter members
Establish goals for developers within their chapter aligned to the chapter’s competencies
Provide 1:1 coaching and mentoring with chapter members, encouraging growth outside their chapter competency
Work with journey technical leads and the Talent Squad to attract top talent

Relationships and Communications

Act as a trusted technical partner to the Omni business by providing guidance and technical direction
Maintain relationships with senior management and executives across T&O and P&CB to help prioritize and drive Omni objectives
Influence squad backlogs by working with Omni Product Owners to prioritize technical debt and other key technical deliverables

Squad/Team Lead

Responsible for delivery execution of a squad of 6-8 developers
Act as a full-stack lead developer for the squad (hands on coding experience)
Run code reviews, monitor test reports and ensure code quality
Ensure all code delivered aligns to Omni/RBC best practices
Promote an agile culture and Omni way of working inside of the squad and help the designated scrum master run agile events

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

7 years in software development/engineering
5 plus years of experience as a team lead; mentoring and leading experience
3-5 years developing software in an Agile environment

Nice to Have

Prioritizes innovation and research activities for chapter members
Assesses employee performance in conjunction with others from Omni (i.e. journey technical leads, journey owners, product owners, squad technical leads)
Hiring of developers and engineers
Working knowledge of French
