Job description: Sartor and Associates has been retained by Entegrus Powerlines Inc. to recruit a Distribution Engineer. The position is based in their St. Thomas office and reports directly to the Manager of Engineering.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
The Distribution Engineer or Engineer in Training will support distribution system engineering design work including: reviewing and monitoring of engineering designs and the development engineering processes; acting as a liaison between Engineering and other departments, as well as with external stakeholders and customers; and troubleshooting distribution system technology and perform engineering modelling and studies.
DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assist with the assignment, monitoring and review of the design and layout work conducted by the Engineering Technologists, for new distribution plant assets, as well as modifications to existing distribution plant assets.
- Assist in the development and update of engineering processes and procedures to ensure compliance with Ontario Regulation 22/04, Electrical Distribution Safety.
- Conduct in-field monitoring and oversight of distribution plant equipment, including substations.
- Assist with the review of engineering quotes, as well as review of electrical equipment and apparatus intended for use in the distribution system.
- Perform engineering calculations and system modelling studies.
- Assist in the development of short and long-range plans and departmental budgets.
- Troubleshoot distribution system technology and conditions and propose/execute resolutions
- Instruct and work with contractors and consultants, as required, for the completion of assigned projects.
- Assist third-party stakeholders in establishing and executing joint-use related projects

QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: The ideal candidate has a university Electrical Engineering Degree, and (i) has attained a professional engineer designation (P.Eng.), or (ii) is working toward a P.Eng.
- Experience: 2-3 years of electrical utility work experience is preferred
- Knowledge: (1) Proficiency in electrical theory, electrical distribution design and industry standards and project management work practices. (2) Knowledge of Ontario Regulation 22/04 and the Ontario Energy Board’s Distribution System Code, as well as the OH&S Act and IHSA rules and regulations. (3) Familiarity with SCADA, GIS and distribution protection and control (P&C). (4) Familiarity with design and operation technologies (i.e. CAD, SPIDA Calc, asset management software, databases).
- Skills: Must have strong interpersonal skills. Must have sound problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills. The ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff is required.
- Other: Eligibility for P.Eng. (Professional Engineers of Ontario). Must possess a valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License and an acceptable Driver’s Abstract.

- Management competency to prioritize goals for assigned staff. The Engineer in Training will need to have the competencies to listen accurately and understand unspoken, partly expressed thoughts, feelings and concerns of others.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
The position will work mostly in an office environment. Regular travel within service area will be required to visit job sites and crews. Travel out of town will also be required to attend meetings and conferences.
The position will involve visiting work sites under construction as well as active substations and other environments with energized apparatus.
