We are looking for a Distribution System Development Engineer to support the development and implementation of strategies, processes, and tools for the advancement of planning functions for the ENMAX Power Distribution and Network electrical system.

The Engineer will assess the short-term and long-term impact of general system load growth, new customer connections and new technologies on the electrical grid. The role will develop specific projects that maintain capacity and reliability on the system.

Major Responsibilities:

Assess and determine the future development of the EPC Distribution and Network system in the best interests of EPC customers.

Develop new and maintain existing planning processes, tools and standards.

Accountable for Planning Cycle deliverables including:

Load forecast

System assessment

Project justification and project scope development

System development plan

Accountable for the identification and development of substation capacity upgrade projects.

Evaluation of customer connections and determination of system changes required to allow the customer connections.

Steward programs and projects from ideation to completion.

Assist in regulatory undertakings

Education Required:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.

P.Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA)

Qualifications & Experience:

Minimum 4 years of experience in power distribution industry.

Sound engineering and operational knowledge of distribution utility systems.

Experience with forecasting electrical load at system and feeder levels.

Experience with power system assessment (N-1, N-1-1, N-2 contingencies) and development of solutions for distribution and network systems.

Proficiency in using CYME (CYMDIST) software for load flow studies on radial distribution and secondary network systems, including:

Load Flow Analysis

Load Allocation and Estimation

Fault/Short Circuit Analysis

Load Balancing

Motor Start

Batch Analysis / Running Cyme using script

Experience with interconnection studies for Distributed Energy Resource (DER)

Experience with AESO DER interconnection process

Proficiency in computer programming using Python is an asset

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 – 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
