Job description: Reporting to the Network Director, the Education and Practice Coordinator leads the development of practice guidelines and education tools for the Infection Control Community of Practice. This includes critical appraisal of relevant research and translation of this research into practice recommendations, utilization of educational/ curriculum theory and knowledge of clinical practice to design and develop infection control education tools and programs for infection control professionals, healthcare providers, patients and families.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the collation, development and maintenance of infection prevention and control educational resources and initiatives that serves the entire continuum of care. Identify, analyze, and use relevant and valid information including research findings in the development of educational curriculum.
  • Facilitate competence development by planning, developing, and evaluating infection prevention and control orientation and continuing education programs. Develop and adapt educational programs and materials in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Promote infection control education by acting as a clinical and educational resource, role model and mentor to health care staff. Provide information and consultation to health care providers regarding evidence-based practices. Set priorities when planning and providing educational programs to respond to provincial educational needs and emerging issues.
  • Maintain and update knowledge of education and practice by reviewing and critically appraising current literature and research, and identifying new theories/trends/programs to ensure clinical education programs, resources and activities are current, accurate and appropriate. Apply learning and communication theory to create a professional learning environment for learners in classroom, online, workshops, and clinical teaching and learning settings.
  • Maintain competence in knowledge of relevant legislation and regulation that influence curriculum content including the Public Health Act and Health Professions Act within British Columbia.
  • Provide input into research planning and implementing research activities and assisting in review of research results.

What you bring:

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in a regulated health care profession, plus completion of an Infection Prevention and Control Certificate from a recognised accredited program, and completion of education development courses (such as curriculum design and delivery) from an accredited program.
  • Seven (7) years’ experience working with policy makers, practitioners and researchers, including three (3) years’ experience in Infection Prevention and Control, and clinical experience in diverse health care settings. Current practicing registration with a relevant professional association.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically appraise infection control-related evidence and translate into practice; teach, facilitate and coach in online, clinical, and workshop settings; and develop and present educational programs and materials.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team; establish workload priorities, plan and organize work, and work with time-sensitive projects; adjust to new or unexpected events, deal effectively with conflict situations, and problem-solve.
  • Previous experience with accessing literature databases, undertaking literature searches, and considering multi-media resources for educational purposes.
  • Demonstrated skill to operate related equipment, including various word processing and other software packages.
