Salary: £26,341 – £27,924 with progression to £30,497 per annum

The Role

The School of Modern Languages wishes to appoint an Education Co-ordinator to join its Professional Services team. This is an exciting and challenging role where you will be responsible for managing and leading the Education team.

You will have overall responsibility for ensuring the School’s education functions are carried out effectively and efficiently with a particular commitment to providing an excellent experience for students. You will be a proactive and highly organised individual with excellent interpersonal skills. You will have a good commitment to sharing best practice in a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities

  • To manage, lead and develop the School’s Education PS team, including induction and training, allocating work as appropriate and monitoring performance.
  • To ensure that the School’s Education PS team delivers a consistent level of service to students and that they are effectively supported throughout their programme lifecycle.
  • To ensure the effective administration of the full range of SML Education activities, including providing efficient support to academic staff. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Working closely with the Director of Education and the Director of PGT to ensure that the academic governance structure is appropriately and effectively and supported.
  • Co-ordinating the annual cycle of formal educational compliance activities such as AMR
  • Overseeing the updating of educational administration information such as MOFs, degree programme regulations, programme specifications, covering UG, PGT and UWLP, including quality checking and providing guidance to academic staff where appropriate
  • Ensuring SML has expert users for University educational systems, for example SAP, BW, SLM, MOFs database, NESS and Canvas and for training other staff where appropriate
  • Co-ordinating the School’s assessment processes, including marks collation, and supporting Exam Boards. To ensure documentation is accurately prepared and marks and decisions are recorded appropriately and accurately
  • Acting as lead for SML with Timetable Services, ensuring appropriate information is gathered on teaching requirements.
  • Representing SML at Faculty Education Forum and other working groups as required
  • Producing accurate data and timely reports on education activity as required
  • To oversee and manage student induction processes, coordinating arrangements with Faculty and Central services, liaising with key academics and ensuring effective communication with all staff and students
  • To co-ordinate School responses to Level 1 student appeals, complaints and Support to Study, ensuring that communication is appropriate
  • To work with the School Manager and Deputy School Manager on student recruitment and marketing including support for events, such as open days and Offer Holder Days, supporting PGT recruitment interviews and subsequent communications
  • To liaise with the University-Wide Language Programme Director, overseeing marketing of the UWLP programme and monitoring student recruitment
  • Any other duties within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required; assisting other staff at times of heavy workload flexibly and co-operatively within the School to provide a co-ordinated and efficient support service

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience of student administration processes within a higher education institution and an understanding of the main activities within the student life cycle
  • Experience of managing high quality administrative functions in a busy student-facing environment
  • Evidence of ability to manage and supervise a team
  • Able to prioritise, forward plan, meet deadlines as well as respond flexibly to unexpected demands while maintaining accuracy
  • Evidence of a proactive, creative and flexible approach to problem solving
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, tailoring to the audience as appropriate

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Faculty and University policies and procedures, particularly in the area of learning, teaching and student experience
  • Knowledge of IT systems such as SAP, NESS and Canvas

Qualifications

  • Qualifications that indicate a high level of literacy and numeracy (eg A levels or equivalent) or demonstrable extensive work experience in a relevant role and/or comparable setting
