Role: Program Manager – Vision and Sensor Systems

The Program Manager is responsible for leading the program and supporting all aspects of program execution (cost, schedule, technical, performance and customer satisfaction) for critical programs in the Vision Systems and Sensors (VSS) portfolio of MDA Robotics and Space Operations. The PM must have the ability to establish and sustain business relationships, respond to customer needs in a timely manner, plan and manage multi-disciplinary scope, and support a diverse team to achieve business objectives. * The program manager is the key leader to deliver program requirements on time, on budget and to the level of quality our customers demand. PM’s lead programs from initiation through to close out and are accountable for the overall execution performance of the program. The complexity of space programs is challenging and the VSS program manager needs to be comfortable navigating the organization to achieve results.

Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and manage project plans, from inception through to completion of the project
  • Management of program budgets and schedules including resource management
  • Oversee all aspects of the program to ensure compliance for technical and programmatic requirements within program budgets
  • Conduct Program Reviews with customers and MDA senior management
  • Prepare metrics to monitor performance of the program (including earned value)
  • Produce and implement risk management plans for the program
  • Manage effectively through program complexity to find clear paths to success
  • Act as primary customer contact for the project and lead project activities including leading review sessions with customer to discuss costs, scheduling and project performance
  • Assess project issues and developing resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer needs and eliminating barriers to success
  • Support the preparation of proposals and bids developing achievable and affordable project plans
  • Other related duties as required

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of professional related work experience
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading multi-disciplined, cross-functional, matrixed teams including members from Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance and Contracts
  • Strong communication skills and experience presenting to customers and senior leadership; ability to effectively work and communicate with all levels of management and customers
  • Strong understanding and implementation of program leadership best practices and processes to include capture management, engineering development, production operations and mission support activities
  • Strong working knowledge of business and project management tools and processes such as IPDS, EVMS, IMS/IMP, Risk Management, Financial Forecasting and EACs
  • University degree ( Engineering; Science; Business) or equivalent qualifications and experience
  • Extensive knowledge, formal training and proven experience in project management
  • Prefer PMP certified (PRINCE 2 acceptable)
  • Proven ability to manage programs in accordance with cost, schedule and quality commitments
  • Experience with project planning techniques and fiscal management
  • Excellent understanding of financial performance indicators
  • Advanced customer service, influence and negotiating skills
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with staff, peers and customers
  • Proven experience working with vendor partners in various levels of technical and business relationship engagement
  • Knowledge and experience in the development, design, analysis, integration and test of mission critical hardware and software systems
  • Experience in the space industry working with customers such as the Canadian Space Agency, NASA and ESA and their prime contractors, is highly desirable
  • Highly motivated team player with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Superior problem solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and willingness to learn and adapt to changing demands
  • Exceptional organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Capable of working under pressure to meet time critical deadlines
  • Must be able obtain a hold a Canadian Federal Government Security Clearance
