Job description: Savron, a wholly owned subsidiary of Geosyntec is seeking to hire an Environmental Technician to support the operation of a STARx soil remediation processing plant at a project Site in Toronto, Ontario.

The individual will participate in daily operations of the STARx plant focused on the treatment of hydrocarbon contaminated soils. The position involves the operation and troubleshooting of Plant equipment, oversight of subcontractors, communication with Savron project management, coordination with project stake holders, and standard operational tasks including soil sampling, process gas sampling, equipment change outs and prescribed regular maintenance on various forms of equipment.

The position requires an applicant confident and capable of working with multiple team members in demanding environments, willingness to work outdoors and complete maintenance tasks utilizing various hand and power tools. Plant operations requires day, afternoon and night shifts typical lasting 8 – 12 hours. Weekends and holiday work is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform duties required of a full-time operator at the STARx Plant, including;
  • Operate and troubleshoot Plant equipment and maintain sub systems;
  • Maintain standard Plant operations documentation in accordance with company policy & procedures;
  • Communicate operational status to Savron project management in accordance with project policy and procedures;
  • Oversee subcontractors and maintain written records in accordance with project policy and procedures;
  • Perform soil and process gas analytical sampling, and;
  • Complete regular maintenance as per project policy and procedures.
  • Gain an understanding of the dynamic nature of operating the systems and how to respond to common operational scenarios;
  • Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation;
  • Support ongoing development of STARx technology;
  • Assist in the preparation of the final data packages, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices, and;
  • Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company s Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • High school diploma (OSSD) or General Achievement Diploma (GAD). (required)
  • Associate s degree. (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 years (3+ preferred) of experience in related field or applicable experience. (required)
  • Technical experience in construction services, processing plant operations, geotechnical, environmental, or related engineering disciplines. (required)
  • Mechanical experience including the use of typical hand tools and power tools. (required)
  • Welding experience/qualifications. (preferred)
  • Experience and comfort working around large machinery. (required)
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, including process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and equipment fabrication drawings. (required)
  • Ability to interpret real time process data to inform operational decisions. (required)
  • Experience ensuring field activities comply with construction plans and specifications and the ability to monitor several different types of activities simultaneously. (preferred)
  • Experience with the operation of industry typical monitoring and data collection equipment, including but not limited laptop and handheld computers, digital multimeters, photoionization detector, four gas meters or similar. (preferred)
  • Experience with multi-media sampling including soil, water, and air. (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software programs. (required)
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, compute rate, ratio, percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs. (required)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, and strong work ethic. (required)
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)
  • Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. (required)
  • Valid Canada driver s license, satisfactory driving record, and reliable transportation, for business travel. (required)
