Position Summary

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study (JICS) Laboratory School, University of Toronto. Reporting to the Principal of the JICS Lab School and the Director of the Natural Curiosity (NC) Environmental Education Program, the Program and Development Coordinator is responsible for leading and executing a fundraising strategy for the 2021-22 academic year, and supporting the implementation and growth of the Natural Curiosity Program for Environmental and Indigenous education in schools across the province and country.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION

The Natural Curiosity Program and Development Coordinator’s focus will be two-part: 1) support the Environmental Education Program Manager and Program Director at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study Laboratory School with general program development and implementation (30% of time), and 2) support fundraising efforts toward the sustainability and growth of the program (70% of time).

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General Support of the Natural Curiosity Program (30% of time):

Taking on delegated administrative and creative tasks to support the Program Manager and Director on a weekly basis which include but are not limited to:

  • Writing emails and letters
  • Writing and editing promotional content, social media, etc.
  • Researching best practices
  • Supporting the planning, coordination and execution of virtual/hybrid professional learning programs for educators
  • Coordinating annual contests and award submissions
  • Assisting with creating and executing presentations
  • Conference and workshop planning

Fundraising and Development (70% of time):

  • Support the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy
  • Research, identify, track and follow up on new and ongoing fundraising opportunities
  • Support the upkeep and expansion of an online database of prospect and current donors
  • Support the development of donor and prospect engagement materials with the JICS and NC teams
  • Assist with donor stewardship activities such as the annual report, fundraising and board meetings
  • Prepare regular impact reports for mid- to high-level donors following gifts
  • Support the annual planning and strategy setting for the NC Program
  • Work with JICS’s Business Officer to track the program’s annual budget and monthly expenses
  • Provide high-level advice on internal organization and administration, including organizational strategy and visioning, monitoring and evaluation, and other team management tasks, as needed
  • Attend monthly meetings with OISE Advancement Officers to identify collaborative funding opportunities and report on fundraising-related matters
  • Contribute to positive workplace culture and great internal communication
  • Efficiently monitor and respond to Slack/email communications

Requirements: Experience and Expertise

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in nonprofit management, partnership development, fundraising or an equivalent client-focused environment
  • Demonstrated success in proposal and grant writing, and stewarding small gifts between $5,000 and $25,000; major gifts upwards of $25,000 to $100,000+ a definite asset
  • Familiarity with social media & online communication strategies (webinar and website management a definite asset)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Applications, especially Excel, Google Docs and Slides
  • Exhibits a high level of commitment, initiative, adaptability, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to multitask, organize, manage time and work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
  • Degree/diploma in fundraising, public relations, marketing, management, business or related field an asset
  • Highly organized, adaptable, with the ability to work well under pressure with occasional time constraints and prioritize shifting targets
  • Experience working with and managing small, agile teams
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work from home, with access to reliable internet connection and computer

Working conditions:

This position is usually based out of the JICS Lab School in Toronto. However, due to pandemic-limitations this position will be primarily remote, and on site as needed.

  • Hours: Monday to Friday, occasional evenings and weekends in times of heavy deadlines or events
  • Contract: full-time with strong possibility of renewal, dependent on funding
  • Compensation: $55,000 per year (before statutory deductions, prorated to terms of contract)
