The Department of Dinos Administration and Operations in the Faculty of Kinesiology is currently seeking a Recurring Part-time Events Assistant.
The Events Assistant reports to the Manager of Events and is responsible for providing outstanding customer service to the guests and involved participants of varsity athletic home games. Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for preparation activities and customer service areas (tickets and gate, concessions, merchandise sales, data entry, report generation, and event venue preparation). This position requires mostly evening and weekend shifts with some daytime shifts during the week.
The Events Assistant may be required to process monetary transactions, sell merchandise and concessions items, supervise hourly and student employees, and provide excellent customer service to all guests of Dinos Athletics and the University of Calgary. Prior to events, this position may involve preparatory activities such as printing game day tickets, preparing documents for cash flow processing, posting advertising materials, preparing and accepting stock deliveries, stocking service areas, preparing venues, hosting visiting teams, and other necessary tasks. The successful candidate will be able to learn skills quickly, exercise decision making on how to trouble-shoot customer service questions, determine priorities and deadlines, and demonstrate initiative in completing tasks and meeting customer and departmental requirements.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Poster walk
- Print game day tickets
- Put in orders for supplies and concessions
- Accept deliveries
- Stock customer service areas with appropriate supplies
- Complete reports and file paperwork
- Host visiting teams – game day warm-up supervision
- Prepare performance areas – set up sound system and stats table
- Prepare floats
- Supervise student and casual employees in customer service areas (box office, gate admissions, beer gardens, concessions, and merchandise sales)
- Open and close cashier areas
- Troubleshoot at venues during varsity athletic events
- Determine priorities for action items
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Experience in cash handling and procedures required
- Strong verbal communication and problem solving skills that will ensure customer satisfaction
- Must be able to interact with a variety of customers, user groups, students, faculty, and staff while providing outstanding customer service skills
- Professionalism, patience, and flexibility are essential
- Experience in a fast-paced work environment, sporting venue preferred
- Ability to lead and direct others
