$30.66 per hour plus benefits

HOURS OF WORK:
37.5 hours per week, pursuant to the Collective Agreement

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the success of all major events in the CMRC by working closely with user groups from booking to post-event when requested. The incumbent will also be responsible for producing marketing materials and campaigns for assigned CMRC functions as well as selling ice arena board advertising space as well as Active Living Guide advertising. Responsibilities also include development, implementation and maintenance of an Event Hosting Strategy and associated programs, services and marketing efforts.

The incumbent is also responsible for communications duties for the City of Williams Lake that relate to City initiatives and events, including information and education campaigns, City Website and social media, and general media relations duties, excluding items directly related to City Council activities or those of a sensitive or confidential nature.

SUPERVISION:
The incumbent is responsible to Director of Community Services or designated City employee.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate regularly with CMRC Booking Clerk on facility event bookings and follow-up on events that require assistance.
  • Liaise with major event organizers to gather applicable information on clients’ needs and communicate this to the appropriate CMRC Coordinators. Ensure that CMRC staff have all the information and equipment they require to properly prepare for the events.
  • When deemed necessary the position may be required to be on-site during events to assist clients, coordinate staff response and ensure compliance with CMRC policies and procedures including follow-up with client to gather and document feedback.
  • Develop, maintain and coordinate general marketing and promotional materials and campaigns for the City of Williams Lake as assigned, as they relate to City initiatives. This excludes items directly related to City Council activities or those of a sensitive or confidential nature
  • Coordinate advertising sales for the Williams Lake and Area Active Living Guide and other Active Living Guide responsibilities as assigned.
  • Complete reports and maintain records for the CMRC as required.
  • Responsible for development, implementation and maintenance of an Event Hosting Strategy and associated programs, services and marketing efforts.
  • Development and maintenance of web-based event hosting resources as required.
  • Proactively work with local, regional and provincial groups and organizations to ensure events marketing is maximized either through cooperative marketing or other best practices.
  • Manage media relations for City communications to promote positive media coverage, prepare news features and news releases, organize news conferences, respond to media inquiries and occasionally act as spokesperson. This excludes items directly related to City Council activities or those of a sensitive or confidential nature.
  • Promote public awareness and educate the public regarding general applicable City initiatives and programs.
  • Design, coordinate and manage production of external print publications within budget and deadline.
  • Design, develop and ensure the consistent presentation of information on the corporate website and social media with respect to City initiatives and events. This excludes items directly related to City Council activities or those of a sensitive or confidential nature
  • Development of a measurement and communication strategy for event hosting.
  • Ensure all activities are completed within budget.
  • Assist visiting groups as needed to provide information regarding accommodation and City amenities.
  • Work in cooperation with the Economic Development Officer to support grants for specific marketing initiatives.
  • Provide support for tourism initiatives and liaise with relevant organizations within the scope of the City’s mandate.
  • Communicate with community groups to ensure best use of time and resources.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the Director of Community Services or designated employee.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • University Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Tourism, or a related field, with at least two years related experience in marketing, events or business; or a College diploma with at least 4 years related experience in marketing, events, tourism or business.
  • Two years’ experience working in a recreation centre preferred.
  • Experience in print production and advertising.
  • Ability to communicate well in English both verbally and written, as well as excellent presentation and salesmanship skills.
  • Computer use proficiency including use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Power-Point, Publisher, Excel, etc.), as well as design and lay-out software.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR C, or willingness to complete within six months of employment.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, public and user groups in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Shall be capable of performing physical duties as required.
  • Ability and initiative to undertake additional training to upgrade skills and abilities.
