Special posting considerations: Reporting to the Director General, Human Resources, the Director, HR Operations is a key leadership position which is accountable for the delivery of a comprehensive range of human resources services to the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The current scope of the role involves leading Organizational Design, Staffing, Classification, Compensation and Benefits, Labour Relations, and Occupational Health and Safety.
It is an exciting time to join the NSERC-SSHRC HR team and a great opportunity to lead a new team of HR professionals through a modernization and transformation agenda. Some of the current initiatives include; the development of a talent acquisition strategy coupled with a review and modernization of the staffing framework; providing leadership and increasing organizational capacity in the promotion of a physical and psychological safe, respectful, and healthy work environment for all employees; and establishing and articulating a vision for the HR Operations team with an aligned service delivery model to support NSERC and SSHRC’s diverse and agile workforce and workplace needed to maintain the agencies’ reputation as a global leader in supporting and promoting research.
As a member of the dynamic HR leadership team, the Director, HR Operations will contribute strategically by providing advice and guidance on corporate initiatives pertaining to the development and implementation of policies, programs and special projects related to human resources and change management ensuring alignment with corporate objectives. Having experience in either a policy role or within a business line is considered a strong asset.
The ideal candidate is a collegial and versatile leader, naturally comfortable collaborating and building positive and productive relationships that achieve results across an organization. The successful candidate has strong analytical skills, ethical judgement, is able to provide fearless and respectful advice that challenges the status quo and has excellent verbal and written communication skills in both official languages.

Job Summary
As Director, Human Resources Operations, you will be accountable for planning, developing maintaining and enhancing a client-focused service delivery framework supporting the provision of a comprehensive range of operational human resources services to the NSERC and the SSHRC. Your specific areas of accountability include staffing, classification and organizational design, labour relations, human resource planning, occupational health and safety, compensation (HR-to-Pay). You will also provide expert advice on sensitive issues which impact directly on the provision of HR services to clients.
Statement of Qualifications
Education
Degree from a recognized university with specialization in a field relevant to the position or an acceptable combination of experience, training and education relevant to the position.
Experience
Experience in leading one or more operational HR disciplines.
Experience in providing advice and recommendations to all levels of management.
Experience in developing and implementing HR strategies, policies and programs.
Experience in managing the work of a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
Knowledge
Substantial knowledge of good practices in human resources management and of the most recent innovations in Future of work.
Sound knowledge of the legal and policy frameworks governing Human Resources in the federal public service.
