The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a Teaching Stream tenure-track position in Computer Science at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence on or soon after July 1, 2022. There are three (3) positions available. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
The successful applicants will be based at York’s new Markham Campus when operational (expected in Fall 2023) and will become members of the first cohort of resident faculty members. Between the appointment date and the opening of the campus, the appointees will assume a combination of teaching responsibilities at York’s Keele campus and contribute to the development of academic and research programming planned for the new Markham Campus.

Collaboration with York University’s existing research strengths in the core areas of the new campus and dynamic engagement with the area’s businesses and industries will create an innovative, cross-disciplinary research culture for solving complex problems that transcend traditional disciplines.
These positions will support the development of two new programs. One program has a significant focus on work-integrated learning and non-traditional delivery in digital technologies. The other is concentrated on an experiential-learning-centric and community-based computer science program with a focus on software development.
Candidates should have (i) a Ph.D. in Computer Science (or related field), (ii) a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field) along with a doctorate focusing on higher education pedagogy (such as Ed.D.), or (iii) both Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Computer Science (or related field) with a significant record of professional experience in computer science. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in software development, cloud computing, cybersecurity, or data science. Experience in collaborating with industry and community partners is an asset. The successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate courses and to provide educational management, guidance, and direction in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation in the workplace and classroom.
The successful candidates will demonstrate excellence or potential for excellence in teaching university-level courses through their teaching statement, teaching accomplishments, and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as work-integrated and community-based learning, teaching evaluations, and strong letters of reference. The successful candidates will also demonstrate a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to computer science teaching, learning and program design, and demonstrate good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching. Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred. The successful candidates are also expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work.
