Job Summary:

The Faculty of Business & Information Technology at Ontario Tech University invites applications for a three-year, limited term Academic Associate position teaching Networking and Security subjects in the Bachelor of Information Technology program. This position is subject to budgetary approval, and would start on July 1, 2021, or as soon as it is filled.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Ontario Tech is a technology-enhanced learning environment and the candidate shall be expected to have skills in the integration of technology into teaching and to model those skills in their own teaching in the University’s web-centric and mobile learning environment. Primary duties include preparing, delivering and grading all course material, assignments, quizzes and exams for as assigned. She/he will be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course. Duties may include the supervision of teaching assistant(s).

The Faculty offers Honours undergraduate degrees in Commerce and in Information Technology, with specializations in Networking and Security, Game Development and Technology Management. We offer the Master of IT Security (MITS) degree with an Artificial Intelligence focus. MSc and PhD programs in Computer Science are offered jointly by the Faculties of Business and IT, Engineering and Science. The successful candidate will be appointed as an Academic Associate, responsible for teaching the equivalent of a maximum of seven (7) standard courses per contract year, in the area of Networking and Security. The courses will be spread between the fall, winter and/or spring/summer terms. The successful candidate will be expected to follow a 70% Teaching, 20% Service, and 10% Other workload each year for the duration of this contract. Required Skills

  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching, with an ability to utilize a technology-enhanced learning approach and explore and develop new pedagogies.

Education:

Applicants should hold a Masters or PhD in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline with a focus on IT Security and Networking. Required Experience

  • Knowledge and prior experience in IT Security are required.
  • Candidates should posses a solid academic background, and strong technical knowledge to be able to teach some or all of the following subjects: Cryptography and Network Security, Machine Learning, DevOps, IT Security Policies and Procedures, Security Analysis, Operating Systems Security, Basics of Digital Transmission, and Attack and Defense.
  • Candidates must demonstrate their ability to work in a team.
