Job Summary

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, The Field Service Officer (FSO) will be responsible to ensure the inventory being held at the various locations in their territory is reflected accurately in the SAP system and is managed in accordance with CN approved guidelines. The FSO also provides guidance to the field for material related issues and training related to inventory for both our Engineering and Mechanical forces. Located in either in Vancouver, Kamloops or Prince George, British Columbia (BC), the current position will be responsible for inventory plants in the BC and preference will be given to local candidates.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conducting, reconciling and reporting on annual inventory counts of Engineering (Track and Bridge) plants and on audits of Mechanical (Car and Locomotive) and Work Equipment warehouses performed alongside the various supervisors to ensure inventory is accurately reflected in the financial statements and CN is SOX compliant
  • Monitoring and supporting the field on material problems from ordering to issuing as well as working with the field in resolving billing and reporting errors, to ensure proper supply of material to the field and ensure accuracy and utilization of inventory on hand
  • Reviewing and maintaining accurate master data to minimize ordering and issuing errors
  • Aiding in identifying surplus and obsolete material through analysis so prompt disposal can be arranged
  • Training field personnel on SAP and Inventory Management and provide guidance on proper warehousing guidelines

Working Conditions

  • Significant travel requirements, which includes extended overnight stays away from home.
  • Combination of outdoor work in varying weather conditions and indoor office work.
  • Conform to safety procedures and maintain a high level of safety awareness in the work environment.

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license. Must be able to drive a CN vehicle.

Education/Certification/Designation

  • Completed post-secondary degree

Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • In depth knowledge of SAP and Excel a must. Good knowledge of SRS and Business Warehouse (BW) would be considered as an asset

  • High integrity and ability to work autonomously, manage schedule appropriately to meet objectives and deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances and situations
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and maintain positive relationships with various levels in the organization including Senior Management
  • Ability to train and to engage others to follow inventory management best practices
  • Good understanding of track and/or car or locomotive maintenance/repair processes and knowledge of related material
  • Good knowledge of inventory management best practices
