Primary Purpose: To provide financial planning, analysis, and support to the Indigenous Research Chair in Nursing, and ensure finance and administrative activities are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Indigenous Research Chair in Nursing, this position will be responsible to organize and respond to activities related to the role of the Chair, providing effective integrated financial strategies and initiatives that support the Chair’s unique objectives and operational requirements. Ensures compliance with ethics, accounting standards and university policies and procedures. In providing various financial services, maintains confidential information, and applies sound practices with a consistent, proactive and collaborative approach.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide strategic management of all budgeting, financial planning and analysis to support the unique financial components the research portfolios
  • Provide regular financial reporting, outlining budgets to actuals for various research projects/accounts
  • Monitor funding and revenue sources, advise on how financial resources are best utilized and identify opportunities that achieve greater effectiveness of operations
  • Other supports/reports/duties as assigned.

Education: Post-secondary education in accounting or finance management related program. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Experience: Experience in general accounting, financial management and budgeting, and financial planning and analysis. Familiarity with USask systems such as Fast and Crystal Reports would be an asset. Must have experience working in a diverse and inclusive environment. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and a high level of attention to detail are required. Demonstrated knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements.

Skills: Must possess knowledge and understanding of issues (including cultural, socio-economic and other factors) affecting Indigenous peoples, and an appreciation that Indigenous engagement is a strategic priority at the University of Saskatchewan. Must remain current within the finance field, including changes to rules, practices, and laws. Excellent analytical skills, problem solving skills, and communication skills including writing, verbal and presentation are required. The ability to work collaboratively, build relationships with internal and external partners, and manage multiple demands to meet deadlines. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
