Job description: Carmen’s Group is looking for a new General Manager to join our lead our team at the Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmen’s!
This role will play a critical part in both the strategic vision and execution of redevelopment of the Downtown Hamilton core. You will be responsible for the successful operation of the Hamilton Convention Centre from leading your team in generating new sales, building key relationships, implementing innovative ideas and execution of extraordinary events. You will also be a part of the Carmen’s Group senior leadership team where you will participate in strategic discussions that will drive our Company’s growth.
Responsibilities
- Participate in strategic planning surrounding new revenue streams and event markets that can be utilized to further advance venue sales and achieve targets
- Contribute to the development of the Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmen’s vision and strategy to guide the organization and ensure co-operation across departments
- Regularly monitor sales targets, assisting the sales team with driving revenue and executing sales appointments for key clients as needed
- Compile and present financial data for strategic team meetings
- Effectively communicate with guests, clients, vendors, suppliers and other external stakeholders to establish and nurture strong relationships
- Confer and cooperate with other department managers to help coordinate and execute special events.
- Liaison with the City of Hamilton representatives for tourism initiatives and facility improvements
- Supervise, and provide advice, support, coaching, and direction to all team members
- Prepare budgets and monitor expenses across all departments to ensure gross margins are achieved for all events
- Inspect property and coordinate services to ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory requirements
- Participate in union meetings and collective bargaining as required
- Promote and live the purpose, vision and values of the Carmen’s Group both internally and externally
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field is required
- Additional post-secondary education/courses related to business/hospitality are considered an asset
- 5 to 10 years’ experience in a senior management position, hospitality preferred
- 2 to 3 years’ experience in facility management
- 2 to 3 years’ experience in generating sales
- Experience compiling, analyzing, and presenting financial data metrics
- Experience working within a unionized environment preferred
- Resourceful and resilient, possessing a strong sense of ownership, responsibility, loyalty, and a strong commitment to achievement and client satisfaction
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; written and verbal
- Strong work ethic, team oriented, positive, and energetic with a great sense of humour
- Flexible work schedule including days, evenings and weekends
- Ability to travel on occasion
