Job Description
To provide accounting and financial reporting guidance and counsel to management and other functional areas on financial instruments, derivatives and hedge accounting. This position reports to the AVP, Global Accounting Policy.
Major Responsibilities
Provide accounting policy support for the implementation of IFRS 9 hedge accounting standard.
Ensure hedge documentation are in compliance with IFRS 9, assess and liaise with hedging units and Global Derivatives Services on implementation and reporting impacts.
Keep abreast of dynamic risk management (i.e. macro hedge accounting) developments and interactions with IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts Standard.
Prepare and co-ordinate all vital derivatives and hedge accounting note disclosures.
Provide hedge accounting advisory services to functional areas such as identification of hedge accounting opportunities, policy interpretations, quality reviews of accounting models.
Prepare and update accounting policies to reflect new regulatory and accounting changes.
Participate and lead special projects with cross-divisional impacts, ensuring that deliverables are timely and within quality targets. Special projects may be related to the implementation of new accounting or regulatory requirement or new operational initiative.
Assist in training on derivatives and hedge accounting within the Finance community and other Business Units.
Assist review of quarterly and year end financial statements and note disclosure.
Liaise with regulators and external auditors as necessary.
Experience and Qualifications
Professional accounting designation required (e.g., Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Public Accountant).
Working experience and technical knowledge on derivative and hedge accounting required.
5 to 7 years of experience in an insurance or services environment preferably gained at a Big 4 public accounting firm or insurance company.
A strong financial background with a knowledge of the financial services sectors and the insurance business in particular.
Demonstrated ability to lead/run projects of various sizes.
Ability to learn/apply a large amount of technical accounting materials.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to cope in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills – for report writing and communication at all levels of management.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritise to meet tight deadlines.
Flexible when working with changing deliverables.
A teammate who possesses a positive attitude and customer service focus.
