Specific Accountabilities

Install, construct and operate all equipment associated with the NorthwesTel Cable headend and signal distribution network, including satellite and IP programming.

Perform regular maintenance, repair, performance testing, alignment, alternations and adjustment on all headend and plant equipment associated with the signal distribution network and Cable facilities in the delivery of Video, Voice and Data products and services.

Monitor video and audio quality of services delivered on the HFC network.

Maintain NCI performance specifications, and with minimal supervision, initiate and complete comprehensive testing.

Maintain headend inventory of spare equipment and prepares shipping logs, as needed.

Maintain a safe and secure headend facility, which includes headend equipment.

Maintain required logs, records and other documentation.

Provide guidance and assist service technicians and other staff with technical problems.

Assist with operational workflow, training, and quality assurance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required

High school diploma or the equivalent, plus 2 years technical or electronics school or the recognized equivalent in work experience and self-study.

Cable or telecommunications technical experience with at least 3 years as a Service Technician or equivalent.

Ability to climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt as needed in a variety of weather conditions.

Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting.

Ability to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with position.

Ability to read general system layouts/plans from drawings and system maps.

Ability to use hand tools.

Knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics.

Knowledge of cable television products and services.

Knowledge of redesign and measuring voltage wiring, splicing skills (including fibre optic cables), bench sweep, and spectrum analyzer.

Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
