Our Debt Capital Markets group:
Dept Capital Markets provides a broad range of fixed income services to domestic and international clients, including corporates, financial institutions, governments and SSAs. The Debt Capital Markets group in Canada is primarily responsible for structuring and marketing public and private debt instruments in both investment grade and high yield. The group works closely with investment banking, sales and trading, derivatives and foreign exchange teams to achieve optimal execution for our evolving client base. Our debt finance franchise is the clear leader in corporate origination in Canada and uniquely global in nature, with significant capabilities in all major currencies.
The Infrastructure Finance team within Debt Capital Markets is the acknowledged market leader in the financing of public-private partnerships (PPP) and other infrastructure assets in the Canadian market. We were responsible for the creation and evolution of bringing PPP infrastructure to the Canadian bond market, the first global market to do so. RBC’s Infrastructure Finance team has been and continues to be responsible for many of the innovative financing solutions giving our clients a competitive advantage. This group is based on the trading floor and is focused on financial advisory, bond structuring and marketing and we work closely with sales and trading, derivatives, corporate banking, risk management and our other global infrastructure finance teams to achieve optimal execution for our client base.
What will you do?
This opportunity will be highly initiative-driven and in addition to set responsibilities the student will excel by seeking out their own opportunities to learn and add value. Key responsibilities include:
- Performing detailed financial analysis and modeling
- Assisting in the preparation of client presentations
- Research and prepare summaries of industry trends and company analysis
- Drafting market commentary
- Updating and maintaining database
- Coordinating weekly pricing and providing general support to the Infrastructure Finance team and the wider debt capital markets group
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
- Pursuit of a degree in Commerce, Finance, Math, Engineering or related field.
- A self-starter and strong team player with ability to work well in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of accounting (ability to interpret financial statements) and solid understanding of credit metrics is essential.
- Knowledge of general capital markets as well as an interest in corporate bond markets, financial advisory and infrastructure.
- Advanced MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills are a must.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work extended hours and on weekends when required.
Nice to have:
- Financial modeling experience would be desired.
- Strong Microsoft Access skills a plus.
