University of Calgary Continuing Education (UCCE) houses one of Canada’s largest and most successful continuing education departments. It is a multi-disciplinary unit offering diploma, certificate and non-degree programs in the classroom and online through technologies for course delivery.

In support of the University of Calgary’s core principles and financial objectives, Continuing Education is an academic unit with a mandate to respond to the needs of the community through the design, development and delivery of high-quality lifelong learning opportunities.

Each year, UCCE serves over 20,000 adult learners and offers more than one thousand courses taught by hundreds of instructors-all experts in their fields. It is expected to fund, through revenue generation, the majority of its operational costs while contributing financially to the university.

The success of University of Calgary Continuing Education in meeting its business target in a competitive environment is dependent upon effectively serving students and by providing high-quality instruction and programs.

Course Description
University of Calgary Continuing Education is currently recruiting for instructors (contract position) to teach courses in our Continuing Education Business Seminars and Corporate Training programs which includes both the Certificate for Emerging Leaders and the Certificate for Front Line Leaders in Classroom and Online delivery.

At the moment, our preference is for Instructors or subject matter experts that have experience in creating content and facilitating the following course topic areas:

  • Leadership and People Management: Practices, Models, Assessment and Strategies for Effective Employee Management
  • Systems Thinking: Practices, Models, and Strategies that support the application of a systems thinking Mindset at work
  • Leadership of Business in Uncertain Times: Strategic Practices to help Frontline Leaders Manage Operations in times of Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity
  • Facilitating Innovation at Work: Topics that support employees to “Design Innovative Solutions at Work”

We are looking for industry professionals with a least ten years of experience facilitating, developing, and teaching content on these topics.
These instructional positions are non-credit teaching appointments and, as such, are contract positions without benefits (other than those required by Employment Standards).

Program details:

Continuing Education Business Seminars cover a range of business, management, personal effectiveness, and leadership topics. Delivery of these seminars range from three hours to multiple full-day sessions in Classroom and Online delivery. For more details about these certitifcate programs please see link:

Scope of Responsibilities (high level)

  • Create effective lessons plans, develop content, learning activities, presentations, assignments, evaluations, examinations
  • Deliver online and classroom sessions
  • Utilize Desire2Learn for all course materials, assessment and, student communication
  • For online facilitation, utilize Desire2Learn (D2L) and Adobe Connect to facilitate synchronous and asynchronous course delivery including all course materials, experiences and student communication

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent and work experience in the field are desirable
  • Adult learning certificate or equivalent is an asset
  • Previous teaching experience is essential; post-secondary teaching experience is preferred
  • Five or more years experience delivering courses or workshops for corporate clients is an asset
  • Extensive (7 or more years of) industry experience an asset
  • Previous experience utilizing Learning Management Systems such as Desire2Learn, Adobe Connect, Blackboard or Moodle, is preferred
