Job Description
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator or designate, the Intensive Case Management Clinician works within the organization s framework and standards, and a rehabilitation/recovery harm reduction focused model. As a member of an interdisciplinary engagement and treatment team, the Intensive Case Management Clinician provides assessment, harm reduction strategies, intervention, treatment, outreach and/or detoxification and/or recovery consultation and referral for clients experiencing substance use problems and their caregivers/families as client defines. Travel may be a requirement of this position and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Baccalaureate Degree in a health related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.
Recognized post basic education related to mental illness and/or substance use;
Two (2) years recent related experience supporting clients with substance use and mental health issues in a community setting;
Strong knowledge of harm reduction philosophy and practice, as well as HIV, HCV and related issues;
Experience working with persons living with substance use and, mental health concerns;
Prefer experience in engagement with persons who have severe substance use problems and do not readily engage in health care services.
An understanding and application of substance misuse assessments, treatment methodologies, intervention strategies, the change process, and community dynamics;
Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as Mental Health and Child Protection legislation;
Knowledge of available programs and services, their interrelationships, and their function in delivering services in the community;
Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Valid BC Driver’s License.

This posting is for casual outreach clinicians/case managers positions on both ICM1 and ICM2. The intensive case management team is a multidisciplinary shared care model that supports individuals with persistent and severe substance use disorder. The team practices from a harm reduction philosophy; lived experience is an asset. A robust orientation will be provided. A reliable vehicle is required for this outreach based position.
