Job Description

As a Transmission and Distribution Lines Designer in the BBA Vancouver office, you will lead and contribute to executing projects in conceptual, design, construction, commissioning and operational phases for our clients in the Industrial, Mining and Energy sectors. The responsibilities of this role include performing the following activities to the highest quality:

  • Design Lead for transmission and distribution lines packages for projects
  • Work collaboratively with clients, project managers, engineers, designers and drafters for preparing deliverables to BBA and client standards
  • Bring an innovative approach to deliver projects to the best value for our clients while adhering to BBA procedures
  • Visit remote client sites and offices
  • Support proposals including project scoping, cost estimate and schedule
  • Collaborate and share knowledge and experience with the Department

Requirements

For this position, we are looking for candidates with the following experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience with overhead and underground line projects
  • Experience with projects in the utility and mining sectors
  • Excellent communication skills with high competency in English (both spoken and written)
  • Ability to travel on short notice to customer sites and other BBA offices
  • Experience designing lines with voltages of 4 kV to 69 kV
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and other applicable design codes, standards and practices
  • Familiarity with typical overhead and underground structures and ability to challenge alternatives
  • Ability to utilize civil infrastructure existing and proposed designs
  • Knowledge of common utilities design procedures and technical standards (such as BC Hydro and the Alberta power utilities) is an asset
  • Experience creating detailed line models with PLSCAD and AutoCAD
  • Experience creating specifications associated with the supply and installation of lines

The following experience will be valued, but is not necessary:

  • Experience with lines rated 138 kV and above.
  • Experience with transmission structure and material selection
  • Ability to propose and design civil design infrastructures and structure foundations
  • Experience developing line routes
