The ideal candidate aspires to help others understand data and information as well as progressing their analytic and business intelligence skills in a broad variety of initiatives aimed at providing informational value. The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is responsible for developing information services and products to provide informational value to the business and supporting the BI environment. The BI Developer translates business specifications into technical implementation with validation from subject matter experts and clients, builds reusable objects (e.g. facts, metrics, hierarchies, filters, and prompts) for analytics using agile development methods, develops information products with high visual content (e.g. interactive dashboards), distributes information products to consumers and BI environment for self-serve analytics, completes BI intake and change requests, and continually improves, supports, and anticipates information services and products from the BI environment. Using well-developed technical, analytical, organizational, and collaboration skills, the BI Developer plans, estimates, completes and documents BI tasks and activities for projects and operations that promote information-based decision-making. Works closely with developers and analysts in a team with a client and informational value focus. This position is located in Calgary; Edmonton locations will be considered. Description:

As an IT Analyst II, you will provide technical support related to information technology applications either directly to users of the systems or to service delivery functions. You will ensure reliable operations of information systems, resolve complex technical problems, find solutions to customer needs, and lead projects and program initiatives. You will be responsible for more advanced application, telecom or technology support duties. You will investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex problems that have typically been escalated several levels before assignment to this position, and will translate business requirements into technical requirements for a solution and recommend a potential approach to the vendor. You will analyse the solution provided to ensure that it fits both technical requirements and business needs. You will also spend time on project or initiative leadership and delivery.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience – 3 to 5 years applying progressive knowledge and experience in analytics and business intelligence; and continuous professional training in industry best practices, tools, and methodologies. Technical skills – proficient with multiple business intelligence tools using Tableau, PowerBI, MicroStrategy, Crystal Reports etc.; competent in metadata management and data quality processes; intermediate SQL programming skills; able to work with complex data models and content among disparate sources; accommodates changing business processes and requirements and assesses their impact on the data and outcomes; creates and implements testing and validation; and able to support BI environment upgrades/migrations and issue resolution. Analytical skills – able to navigate, join, and analyze data in diverse formats and systems; innovates information solutions using analytical problem-solving and development methodologies; experience performing business, system, and data analysis; interprets and improves relational and dimensional data models supporting analytics; and understands and translates business requirements into technical implementations and business visualizations. Communication skills – excellent oral and written communication skills and able to estimate and plan in a team environment; writes technical and business documentation; draws workflows; articulates issues and solutions; and engages and collaborates with others to achieve consensus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer certification in ITIL Foundations, relevant tool-based training tied to hands-on experience, utilization of Scrum, DevOps, and BusOps frameworks, and excellent customer service.
