Job description: The IT Architect, Remote Access Solutions is responsible for the design and maintenance of PHSA wide remote access solutions; including, Citrix and Netscaler VPN. Partner with various functional areas to provide strategy, problem-solving, technical architecture, and project management for IT systems. This position will be accountable for identifying key business changes and implementing the developing technical solutions as needed.
What you’ll do:
- Provide technical administration, engineering, and support for Citrix applications and overall environment.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of major software and hardware upgrades, ensuring change management procedures and methodologies are implemented and followed. Communicate the technology infrastructure to IT staff, management, community sites, and project teams.
- Analyze the remote access environment continually to detect critical performance and security deficiencies and develop or recommend solutions for improvement. Participate in testing and verification of technical solutions.
- Research and analyze market, technology, and industry trends and standards related to technologies that affect remote access solutions for the purposes of determining potential impact on the enterprise and the suitability of different approaches in solving emerging business needs. Provide recommendations on the use and evolution of remote access solutions..
- Prepare, manage and evaluate the procurement of external services by managing the RFI, RFQ, and/or RFP process including creating and evaluating the RFP and committing funds for large enterprise-wide systems initiatives estimated at one million dollars or greater. Liaise with outside vendors, review bids and/or negotiate equipment and/or service contracts, and make recommendations where necessary to the Manager. Monitor the level of support to ensure requirements and expectations of the contract(s) are met.
- Provide training and support after implementation to ensure proper knowledge transfer to given program areas.
- Provide expert technical advice and consultation by performing analysis, formulating recommendations for proposed technology changes, and by providing input into application development and into the use of new technology for inclusion in the technology architecture. Provide consultation and advice to senior management on technology alternatives and solutions.
- Develop annual goals and objectives for the area of responsibility, in collaboration with the Manager, Architecture & Security, ensuring consistency with department plans and authority objectives and strategies.
- Participate in assigned PHSA, Provincial, and Federal committees; chairs and/or lead discussion as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
What you bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related study or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Seven (7) years of recent related experience in a large, complex organization including experience with at least two IT disciplines from a client/server environment, including but not limited to, project management, technical architecture, systems analysis, network management, application development, middleware, database management, and operations.

- Citrix technologies – Citrix Virtual Apps (XenApp), Citrix Virtual Desktops (XenDesktop), Director, Citrix Cloud, PVS, and NetScaler.
- Netscaler technologies – SDX, VPX CDX. Remote technologies RDP proxy, Citrix ICA gateway, Citrix SSL VPN
- VMware Virtualization – vSphere and vRealize.
- Profile management – Citrix, Windows and app layering.
- Experience programming in a scripting language such as PowerShell, VBScript, etc.
- Microsoft technologies – including Active Directory, Windows (desktop and server), DHCP, DNS, etc.
- Knowledge of infrastructure automation platforms.
- Experience managing Citrix environments of over 3000 concurrent users.
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Citrix Certified Administrator (CCA) preferred.
- Understanding of the leading cloud infrastructure platforms such as Azure and Amazon Web Services.
- Experience in architecting a recommended technical infrastructure solution.
- Excellent analytical and technical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent planning and organization skills.
- Understanding of the political climate of the enterprise and how to navigate the politics.
- Ability to understand the long-term (big-picture) and short-term perspectives of situations.
- Ability to translate business needs into technical architecture requirements.
- Ability to estimate financial impact of technical architecture alternatives.
- Ability to apply multiple technical solutions to business problems.
