We currently have a Regular Full-time opportunity for a Manager, Capital & Treasury in the Finance department at our Bayview campus.

Hours of Work:

Weekday: Monday to Friday; Days; 7.5 hrs

Summary of Duties

The Finance department of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has an opening for the role of Manager, Capital and Treasury. Reporting directly to the Director, Capital & Treasury, this position plays an integral role in the planning, analysis and reporting in support of maintaining and re-investing for the organization’s capital needs.

In order to succeed in this role, the candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to prioritize and organize duties and responsibilities in a fast-paced and time sensitive environment, while making the necessary process changes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Priority will be given to candidates with experience in managing staff and budget in a large organization along with demonstrated success as an implementer of process improvements and demonstrated ability to problem solve and manage projects.

The Manager, Capital and Treasury will be responsible for:

  • Manage and coach the capital team including providing direction, mentoring and addressing any conflicts
  • Responsible for all aspects of capital budgeting and accounting, including working closely with Corporate Planning & Development to monitor and report on funding and spending of construction projects
  • Work with Director, Capital and Treasury to lead the creation of a comprehensive annual capital plan
  • Oversee the operational & financial execution of approved capital plan
  • Responsible for all financial controls required to monitor capital spend against budgets
  • Responsible for preparation of reports required by regulatory agencies as applicable, including the coordination of any associated audits
  • Work with Director, Capital and Treasury to support Capital Management Committee, Senior Leadership Team, and Finance & Common Audit Committee
  • Responsible for all aspects of cash management, including forecasting, debt, and investment management & monitoring
  • Provide financial expertise for the analysis of business cases and identify any risks to Director, Capital and Treasury
  • Ensure all insurance claims are submitted and resolved in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with Manager, Financial Reporting & Audit to ensure all relevant requested schedules and reports are provided to support the financial statements and following up on any questions arising during the external audit
  • Highlighting key financial issues relating to this portfolio and escalating them, including identification of potential corrective actions, in a timely manner
  • Other responsibilities and tasks as the need arises

Qualifications/Skills:

  • CPA mandatory requirement
  • Minimum 5 years staff supervisory experience – developing and leading staff is critical to the success of the employee in this role
  • Strong understanding of accounting concepts and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong customer centric approach
  • The ability to motivate and influence the actions of others
  • Working knowledge and appreciation of regulatory issues impacting financial departments, preferably in the health care sector
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and success in optimizing Finance IT solutions. Knowledge of SAP is an asset.
  • Understanding of financial systems, internal controls, business and financial concepts.
  • Experience with capital budgeting, cash management and forecasting an asset
  • Proven ability to manage projects independently is an asset
  • Display initiative and sound professional judgment and integrity
  • A self-starter with the ability to handle multiple job responsibilities, set priorities, problem solve and work with all levels of staff while appreciating the responsibility of meeting tight and conflicting deadlines

  • Flexibility to work off-hours in time sensitive situations
